Anybody eat Alligator?
Just curious. While we were in the Mesa, Arizona Bass Pro store, we had lunch in their plush dining room and I had a grouper and alligator combination plate. Mainly because my buddy was paying for it.
Later, my wife wanted to know what alligator tasted like and I told her it was kinda like a cross between abalone and eagle. [:)][:)] Of course, after her initial, "Yuck", her reply was "Don't touch me". This has been her standard reply since late in 1974 whenever I say something she doesn't agree with.
I was just wondering how many eat alligator on a regular basis? [}:)][:)]

While visiting a power plant in FL, one of the employees husbands was an authorized "exterminator" for alligators that were in people's back yards and such. He was connected with a local resaurant so we got to try "gator bites" - much like chicken nuggets. It was good! 0 -
I was known to partake in some gator eaten when I was in
NC.0 -
It tastes like chicken.
As a lifelong LA resident, it is pretty normal for it to be available, but I prefer other dishes.0 -
Smells like fish, tastes like chicken, and spreads like marmalade. 0 -
I really like the stuff. 0 -

4 pounds alligator meat
1 tablespoon paprika
1 stick of butter
1/4 cup chopped parsley
3 medium onions, chopped
1 1/2 bunches onion tops
1 green bell pepper
2 cups water
4 cloves garlic, minced
cayenne pepper
4 tablespoons finely sifted white flour
salt and black pepper
3 cans of cooked whole tomatoes (Rotel tomatoes)
1 can (8 oz) of tomato sauce
4 bay leaves
1 stick of butter
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 pound andouille (fat, smoked sausage)
Why not just say "two sticks of butter?"0 -
If you ate it at Bass Pro you just tasted the batter( S))))) I like it[:D] 0 -
Every reptile I have ever eaten tastes like frog legs to me. Nothing like chicken at all. 0 -
Had it several times. Like others have said...it's edible, but I like other things better. I don't really like the texture. Kinda chewy. Shark is another story! Love shark!! 0 -
I knew it! Everyone on this board is crazy as a loon. Speaking of which, I wonder what loon tastes like? Probably alligator. Seriously, I liked the alligator. [:)][:)] Must be kinda rich, though, because my sugar level was seriously elevated the rest of the day........Anyway, I wouldn't mind making that a regular thing to eat. Well, regular enough. [:)][:)]
Speaking of shark, I ate shark a lot fishing in the Sea of Cortez. Not bad.....[:D][:D]
Thanks for the replies.

I work for Bass Pro and I am in love with the Gator, those of us in the Fine Gun Room will order a plate to go several times a week. 0 -
I eat it regualarly here in florida. Its a little chewy, and almost a little oily, but its delicious. I love it. 0 -
We used to have a place around here that had baby alligators in a tank for you to watch as you dined on their cousins. Too bad they closed. 0 -
Ummmm....gaatooor.[:p]
This thread is making me hungry. Think I'll go to the canal down the street for some lunch.[:D]0 -

I went into the Fine Gun Room while at the Bass Pro store and was floored by the beautiful double barreled shotguns in there. Also floored by the $40,000 price tags. Then, I noticed that all were "used" shotguns. Daaayum! If I paid that much for a double and cut the barrel off to shoot cowboy action with, I would want to start off with a "new" one, at least!! While visiting the "Fine Gun" room at the Las Vegas Bass Pro store I told the employee that they had a couple of Brownings mis-marked. They had a couple of 525 Golden Clays marked as a grade 6. Next time I visited it was still mis-marked.
I don't know much about Purdy Shotguns but I know Brownings.0 -

I see they only had the cheep guns out, a new custom made double can start at near $100,000. Here is a link to H&H, remember, the pound is worth $3 American:

Yeah, I eat it. Taste like chicken without the bones. Most must have never eaten it fried. Not chewy to me. 0 -
I wonder what the alligator thinks people tastes like?
"Mmmmm, tastes like poodle".

They sell it at the Pike Place Market in Downtown Seattle and I bought some once out of curiosity.
It tasted just like a breaded chicken patty to me so I have since just bought the cheaper priced chicken.0 -
I'll eat a fair amount of Gator bites[:p] 0 -
Why is it when one cant describe the taste of something, they always say "it tastes like chicken?"...
Well chicken takes on the flavor of whatever you cook with it....
Gator tastes like gator...there is no other words to describe it...it does not taste like chicken, pork, beef, or fish....it doesnt even taste fishy....its a mild flavor and will easily pick up flavors cooked with it....it can be chewy if deep fried, but browned and then simmered in a wine sauce?...ohhhhh damn its good...0 -
Louisiana native here as well and got five or so pounds a week or two back, invited my parents over and we fried it up.
My kids enjoyed telling everyone at school that they ate alligator.
