Shotgun casing question
Picked up some Winchester HS(high strength) 28 GA shells today. The boxes looked to be rather new. Got home and went out back to shoot a few of them in my new(to me) Remington shotgun. Out of all the rounds I shot(three), this is the only one that done this. Could it just been a bad round? Or could it have been something with my gun? Just wanting to know if I need to take the gun to a gunsmith to get it looked at if need be. Thanks for any advice or info.

I was a compatition shotgun gone shooter in my teens and that was a common sight when using reloaded ammo.
There was just a pinch to much powder in that round, Causing more pressure than what the shell can handle.
I've never seen it happen with factory loaded ammo before.0 -
Kinda was thinking the same thing with a little too much powder. Had me wondering about it being new factory ammo though. 0 -

Try a different brand of shells ( you won't see federals being used very often in compatition for a reason). If you get the same results take your gun into a good smith and get it fixed.
Also, the federals he gave you could have been reloaded.0 -
Number of years ago had the same thing happen with Winchester AA's. When I went to the Grand I took some along and gave them to the Winchester Rep. Was told that they had a problem with a batch of brass and it was too brittle. Think they me gave about 5 boxes of new AA's for the ones I took out there. 0 -
When I was a teenager with very little money I found a box of 20 ga shells, Being a dareing teen I tried them in my 16 ga single. They fired just fine I thought. Dad found some of my well used empty shells (they had split brass along with a split or two the entire length of the shell) he give me the riot act for doing something so stupid. But I didnt have a 20 ga so what else could I do?
Dad didn't know it but that was far from the dumbest thing I did as a kid!0 -

Your lucking the gun didn't blow up in your face.
A 20ga shell fits REALY lose in a 16ga Chamber. When fired the powder would expand the shell outward to fill the chamber instead of pushing the shot out of the barrel. Normaly a shot shell cannot handle this type of expanding and will almost always crack the shell and/or explode.
Again, You were dang lucky that day!, It could of ended real badly for you[B)]0 -
