Honeybees.....protected?
I received this email from my cousin. I didn't know that honeybees were on the federal protected list. Not the endangered list, but protected list. I agree that they should be. Can't always depend on the wind or illegal aliens walking through fields to pollinate everything, I guess. [:)][:)]

Oh my God!!!! I wish that I had known that you were having a bee problem. I have a friend in Leavenworth that has bee hives and is on some bee society board. He would have probably come out and helped you for much less. I am thankful that Kary didn't try to go take care of these things by herself!!!!
Kary informed me last Monday that we had "some bees" in our shed. I didn't give it much thought...it is summer, they're in the shed....no real issue. She goes on to mention something about a "hive". Hive? what the hell does she mean "HIVE"? I asked her how many she thought were in the shed? She thought 200-300. YIKES!! We can't have 200-300 bees within 30 feet of our home!!! For God's sakes....What if they are Africanized Killer Bees?! So, I begin the task of searching the Internet for "Bee Keepers", "Bee Removers", "Bee Farms"....and so on. By Wednesday, I've spoken with several companies about these BEES.
It appears that......and I quote, "Bees are currently protected under Federal Law due to their shortage and potential distinction. It is against Federal law to kill or harm a bee." In the words of my dear old friend, Kelly.....These" meanies" have to be RELOCATED!? Okay, I can handle this.....I think.
Kary informs me that she can do it. NO she can't! So, I finally reach this bee keeper in Gardner Ks. It will cost me $68.00 to have them come out and determine just HOW to remove and relocate these bees. Ok, I can handle $68.00. So, Wednesday afternoon, the Bee Keeper arrives.
"You have quite a problem here", says the Bee dude." It is going to cost $320.00/hour to remove these....+ the $68.00 house call, and that should take care of it." OR I could spend $200 and they will have to follow up...blah, blah, blah......
About 45 minutes into it, the bee keeper comes knocking on my back door and takes me out to the shed. Lo and behold......we have a 5 foot by 2 foot honey comb colony of bees......How many do you ask? The bee keeper says, "150,000+ alive bees and at least that many in larvae state"! Well exactly 2 hours later.........and bees sucked up, smoked out and the comb removed with a putty knife.......we are virtually BEE free.
In summary:
Learning about where and how bees find places to build honey combs.......Priceless
Visualizing a 5foot by 2foot honey comb in your shed....... Priceless
Searching the internet to learn that bees are protected under federal law.....cost: (monthly internet charge) approx $24.99
Learning how to remove the bees.....Cost: Priceless and easy as hell if you have some duct tape, a shop vac and a putty knife, and aren't afraid to be stung 10 times.....
The actual removal and relocation cost of 150,000 bees and their 150,000 unborn babies, so you don't goto jail for killing a federally protected INSECT!!!!!!!............

Paying that much to get them removed is certainly a problem(maybe the pesticide makers who seem to be the likely suspects at this time can pay for it), but it is true that bees have been dying at an alarming rate, which could lead to huge food supply problems. 0 -

I have a friend in Levinworth too!! He owns a HUGE Tractor/trailor repair shop. His name is Dave Plummer, u know him? Great guy, he let me come kill does off his place a few yrs. ago.(wonder if he needs more killed)?
