New Chamberings
Reading my older post and found this one. I added a couple anyone else see any that are missing
Can anyone name all the new calibers that have came to us in the last 10 years. Do we really need more. Seems to me that we are going to have a hard time finding the ammo for these in the next 10 years. That is alot of diffferant ammo for gun shops to carry. I am adding them to the list as you guys name them thanks

Of those on the list, the 17 is about the only one that "needed" creating... 0 -
the RUM's eclipse their belted brothers by a fair margin,...I'd rather have the RUM.

My personal opinion is that the plethora of new chamberings are just another way for people with too much time on their hands to play around.
The gun manufacturer's grab on to the new chambering and/or promote its development, so they can corner the market of the gun "wiz-kids". The "wiz-kid" just has to have the latest and greatest of everything. In addition, all the gun magazines and their writers have to have something new and sexy to write about I guess. How many stories on the 30-30, .30-06, .300 Savage etc can you write? Its already been said, hasn't it?
Nothing wrong with any of that, it is just the way I see it.
Who really knows how long any of them will stay around. Someones kids/grandkids may end up with a 20 year old rifle that chambers an already obsolete caliber developed when the rifle was new.
I'll stick to the time-honored, tried and tested calibers myself. They have served me well for many years and I expect that they will be around for many more.[;)]0 -

Yuppie calibers that shall disappear, except for (maybe) the .17.
How about the weird pistol calibers that also answer questions nobody asked??

I would add that Ruger is so big their caliber chamberings may well stay around for quite some time even if there is no need for them.

Interesting that the Remington SAUMs have already fizzled to such an extent they don't even make anyone's list.
How about the .325 WSM and the new Marlin .308 whatever that duplicates the nearly 90 yr. old .300 Savage?0 -

Wouldn't have even needed the .17HMR or Mach 2 if Remington had continued to make their 5MM Magnum. My 5MM's will do everything that the .7 will do, and better ... of course in my opinion only. 0 -

What about the new .308 marlin. If i looked at it correctly it does not have a rim on it like the .30-30. They probably solved the extraction problem in the lever action rifles it is meant for, but I always thought it needed a rim on it like the .30-30.

Another new one is the .416 barrett.
Possibly the .408 chytech? (necked down from .505 gibbs)
Not really 10 yrs since it was origionally developed in the 1990's, but the 5.7 fnh.
Almost certian its older than 10 years, but the 6mm ppc.
The .375 jdj (which is a basically a .458 case necked down to .375 for use in TC rifle systems.).
Then new 6.8mm spc for the military.
That new .825 'hand cannon' (which wallie would like) some dude is trying to develope in response to the S&W .500.0 -
......Is there anything left that hasn't been necked up or down or had the shoulder re-angled, then had a new name slapped on it? I firmly believe that everything we've had for 30-50 years has filled every purpose. Look at the ballistic tables. After the .22 Savage Highpower and .220 Swift, What do you want? 45/70? .458 Win.? .357 mag? 45 ACP? They do their job.
......Look at it this way: A bullet of specific weight, with a specific ballistic coefficient, at a specific velocity doesn't care what it's called, or how much gun rag hype it gets. End of story.0 -

That's what I pointed out a few posts previous.
Hornady should have convinced Marlin to simply chamber the rifles for .300 Savage and then loaded them with their fancy rubber tipped bullet.
That way, the round could have worked in the Marlin lever rifles, those of us who love the .300 Savage would have one more load to choose from with a 160 grain projectile AND Hornady would be able to sell MUCH more ammo!

I think you are asking for new Chamberings not caliber.
If so then a new chamber cut that does not even have a cartridge is the 223 Wylde. It is inbetween the 223 and 5.56.0 -
