What was it worth?

Seen parked on the street in Bar Harbor, ME last week, a bright red, like new condition, 427 Shelby Cobra. Another admirer said it was not a kit, but the real thing as the cockpit plate had the bar coded serial number and said "Shelby Motor Co.".

    go into the town parts around here and it wouldnt last 5 mins without getting keyed or a cart ran into it

    I'd guess with the rarity of them and collectiblity a restored one with original motor would go for over $400,000. Probably a lot more than that at the right auction.

    I'll guess that it is a Cobra/R - I'm sure the cockpit plate is cheaper than the car. Especially if it looked that new.

    Most real 427 cars are going for $350,000 to $400,000, a real nice car with a good history will bring upwards of $500,000. Carrol shelby's personal Cobra sold for $5.5 million. Here are a few for sale if you interested:

    It was a 427. 428s were never put in real Cobras by the factory.

    I believe the single 4 barrel was rated at 410 horsepower and the 2X4 was 425. RATED horsepower. Actual HP, by the rating system in use at that time, was north of 500 HP for either.

    The bodies on originals were all aluminum. The knock-offs are mostly fibreglass.

    The 289s would do 0-100-0 in less than 12 seconds.

    Bar Harbor is flatlander paradise. Haven't been there for about 10 years but would love to see a Cobra in person.

    There's a guy around Bangor that has at least two Shelbys and last time I talked with him he was restoring another one.
