I just came back from the post office...there are phony money orders coming from Maryland, Texas and New Jersey so far....A man tried to cash one and it was of course seized....The gentleman had sold some stuff on ebay, phony money order issued...
The clerk said the money orders are issued in hopes that someone will deposit them into their bank, or cash them at other places...The post office already got hit with a few so now they are on the lookout...
The clerk went on to say there is a bit of diff in the color, the green is a bit darker and the greyish/purple circles on the money order are darker in the purple shade...
Also and this is the biggie, if you hold a good money order up to the light, you will see a face in the greyish/purple circle...If you dont see the face, DONT TAKE THE MONEY ORDER...Take the money order, along with the envelope to the post office....they take it from there...The one in New Jersery was from a empty lot...
She also said to not ship anything until the money order is cashed...
Just a word of warning...the fake ones look pretty good, but the face is not there...so look for it...hold it to the light...

I had one, the guy ask me to send him the change.
I told him sure thing, I never had any thoughts of
taking him serious. But the post office had his return address.0 -
...The bogus MO's are comming from almost all states...have been for well over a year now. Instead of waiting for it to clear if you deposit it, take it to the PO when you recieve it, they'll let you know if it's bogus or good...[;)]

It's been going on for quite some time. My bank is always nervous about cashing them but I don't bat an eye if it's for a firearm - you couldn't ask for a better paper trail right back to the guy. 0 -
BR; That "FACE" you refer to is called the "WATER MARK", and is EXTREMELY hard to counterfeit..
