The Stand......

by Stephen King is going to be on SciFi at 3 Eastern.

Has anyone ever seen this movie? I really like it but it is very long, doesn't get over til 11 so I probably won't watch it all the way through.

But I have watched it before and recommend it to anyone.

    It would've been a great deal more entertaining without "John-boy Walton" (Richard Thomas) as the lead protagonist.

    Spend your time reading the book, it'll be better spent and there are no commercials to suffer through.

    I read the book along time ago. Excellent read! I found the movie to be great as well.

    As a resident of Maine, I am required to read all of Stephen King's books or suffer the consequences. I have read most of his books but don't read much in the summer.

    I thought the book was better than the movie,.......as they usually are!
    Geez, that brings back memories.
    I read that huge paperback overnight,...........finished about 6AM, Sunday morning.
    Couldn't put it down![:D]

    I thought the movie a fairly pale rendition of the book. Stephan King is a master at character development. You would swear you know some of the characters, or just passed them on the street. Very atmospheric, but unfortunately he cannot resolve his plots very well, so at the end, some died and the others lived happily ever after. It is a prime example. It was also It that starred Richard Thomas, not The Stand which starred Gary Sinese and Molly Ringwald.

    A good read, but not as good as, "Swan Song". A very similar story.

    Movie was pretty good, pretty true to the book, but, as usual with King's work, the book was better.
    It originally aired as a mini-series. Do they even make mini-serieses any more?

    I agree that the book was better, but only because time constraints in movie (or mini-series) production restricts the ability for the full character development King does in his books. That's the main reason, I think, that his books generally don't make good movies. I remember reading Pet Semetery and couldn't wait for the movie to come out, and then being so very disappointed in the movie because the characters just weren't fully fleshed out. Enjoy most of his books, though. If you like King, try Dean Koontz.

    I'm a dork and was thinking you were getting ready to watch "IT".

    I watched a bit of it last night and had the same impression as when I first saw it. Overly sappy and drawn out with a low SPFX budget.

    "THE GUNSLINGER" trilogy is better. Wish they'd made that a movie.
