My ideas regarding CREDIT CARDS....grrrrrrr
Someone e-mailed me a little while back and said..."you would do more business if you would take credit cards." I understand how it has become the norm to pay for things with a card and nobody gives it a second thought these days. What those companies are doing is wrong....and I don't understand how it became OK for them to do things the way they do.
I go out....find a deal and pay for it with MY MONEY....I then pay overhead to be in business to be able to sell my item...I put a price on my item and work my tail off to promote it so MAYBE I will get more than I paid and enough to cover overhead and make a little extra to keep this ball rolling.
Then here comes the credit card idea....
I don't want you to pay ME for this item I am selling.....NOOOOOOooo....pay THAT GUY over there....I will get my money eventually (whenever they get around to putting it in whatever bank account I feel like keeping a close eye on in hopes the balance is correct if you can keep up with the crazy system they have.) AND....I want to get less money than I would if you had just paid me without using a credit card. I want to actually ADVERTISE for this company who gets to charge ME for letting people pay them and not me!!!! Its just nuts when you think about it.
We have it available at the store...because its like taking people's pacifiers away when you don't take cards.....but I would like to know....
Who started this idea where a credit card company gets to charge us to give them money and advertise for them???? What makes that acceptable and WHY....dear lord....can't I charge THEM for this? That seems more like it should be done.

You talking to me there old son? Well, my friend that calls me that says he does cause I always seem to step right dead in it![:0][:I]0 -
One nice thing about credit cards: the transaction is over and done with in just a day or two. You pay with a check, and that person can hold the check for months and make balancing your checkbook a @#$@#* hassle. I've had several people hold checks for two months and longer. I swear I'm going to start writing "void after 30 days" on all the checks I send out. It drives me crazy. 0 -
Hey Stink Foot....that is one pretty "guy" you have on your signature line. Just who is it...and is it wood? Just how big is it....just the head, or the whole statue? 0 -

Thats a life sized statue of my daddy carved by some brazillian dude he used to know dont remember what the wood is but it is hand carved for my daddy from some fancy wood. Daddy was into antiques during his retirement. Hes dead now but its neet cause I look just like him kinda purdy aint we?[}:)][;)]0 -
I know everyone here is sayin to themselves..."I wish I knew a Brazilian who knew how to handle wood!"
Nice!!!0 -

Well being as I am a "hetero",.......I have no comment on that one! But I am glad to know that you don't have a "fungus" issue, resulting in your name here.0 -

How about posting a pic of your Dad(R.I.P.) next to the carving ??
I'm not trying to be nasty, I'd just like to see how close they are.

Blame Diner's Club. They started it.0 -
Doesn't matter WHO started it, LF, if YOU aren't taking CCs you are missing a HUGE MARKET!!!!!!!
Just bite the bullet and DO IT! Your sales WILL increase, and normally, you'll have your money faster than if you would have taken a money order or cashier's check from the person.
A really good thing about shipping to an FFL is that most people won't use a stolen CC, because they have to do the 4473! So that protects you from stolen cards.
I've always said "If the 3% CC companies charge hurts your business, you are doing something WRONG."
Good luck, and get signed up NOW. I've found that Sam's Club is the cheapest processor out there.

Would you take an IOU? [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [8D]
I would love to have that 870.0 -
Its not that the 3% would do anything to me....I'm a principal type gal. If you see me at WAL MART its probobly best to ignore me because I HATE to give them my money. I drive a Ford (even though its got "issues") because I just didn't HAVE to buy a Toyota. The fact that I sell firearms and can wear a dress in public without the looks Stink Foot would get trying to do so probobly means I am a little on the hard headed side of things. 0 -
Ruger....I just might from you!!!1 0 -
How about layaway?
$100 to hold.0 -
Will do....just let me know how I can help you to get what you want. I am willing to work out deals with you good people. I always like to see a gun go to a good home! 0 -

Seriously? I'm not asking for myself, but if you will do that for certain auction buyers I think you would become a Gunbroker.com Hero and Legend!0 -
I don't mind working things out on MOST of the auctions I have....but some things have other issues that would keep me from being able to do extras. Like the Python up right now....its involved in a little trade. After it sells I get to hand over another gun I have....and its not that a "layaway" on that one would not work out....but my brain will not let me keep up with anymore "extras" when it comes to deals. Sometimes I walk around the store and I see things leaned up or tucked away and I can actually FEEL my brain shrinking as it struggles to keep up with it all...
*that one is here to get cleaned...
*this is a trade that I have to hold onto for 15 days before selling
*this one has the charge handle stolen off of it
*some guy just went to the ATM to get money to pay for this one....or was that two days ago???
*delay
*layaway
*repair
*taking home to put on line
*why is this sticky
*needs logged into the books
*didn't order this and needs to go back to distributor
Its so much and you think to yourself...."no problem shure I can"...but when you look around at it all you realize it gets complicated pretty quickly.
So long as nothing else is "involved" in the listing I will do what I can for you guys.0 -

Those credit card companies enable small businesses like you to stay afloat. If Americans couldn't live beyond their means (a behavior that credit cards enable), you would see a LARGE dropoff in sales. You should be thankful to the CC companies, because their 'services' allow the average Joe Blow to possess a new Mustang and support a gun-a-month habit.0 -
[:D] I have a USED Mustang I will sell CHEAP!!!! 0 -
Well you must also think about it from a customer point of view. If I have a problem with the merchant I have the protection of knowing that someone like Citbank will handle it for me. All that is required from me is to contact the merchant, give them a reasonable amount of time to rectify the situation, and if that doesn't happen the bank will make it happen.
If I'm paying a few thousand dollars to some stranger over the net I would want to be protected.0 -
"Why is this sticky"? You need some Organizational management girl.
I'll send the wife right over, keep her as long as you like,And you can pay her in guns[8D]0 -

If Americans gradually (over the course of 10 - 20 years or so) chopped up their credit cards and paid them off while establishing a 3 - 6 month emergency fund used only for true emergencies then we would have an economy that is much stronger than it is now. The average credit card holder has multiple credit cards with balances that would blow you away. The average college student starts life after graduating college paying phenomenal APRs to credit card companies. That money spent on paying credit card interest could be invested in mutual funds averaging 12% annualized returns. When the Forbes 400 were interviewed regarding credit cards, they were asked about the most important first step towards becoming wealthy. Over 90% said, "Becoming debt free!"
Credit cards are dumb. Credit cards are "normal". I want to be "weird".0 -

You can get that same service with a Visa Check Card or debit card with a major credit card logo on it. Banks don't tell you that they have to give you those same types of protections when they sign on with a major credit card company to issue a debit card that can be used in the place of one of their credit cards.0 -
I have to admit I have a credit card...but its used to order things and get it coming so I can sell!!!! I ordered Black Hills ammo last week and saved about $8.00 for paying before it shipped out. The bill has been paid....my card is through the Iron and Steel credit union and they get a call to transfer money out of my account to pay that bill before I do anything else....I can't quite do that with this Gun Broker stuff.
I have it on file here to pay my fees for the auctions and with the amount of auctions I have been keeping on line lately....it has been a hefty sum these days!0
