My job for the day is done
My house is gunna be nice and cool now.
I have central heat and air, but the a/c just barely kept the place tolorable in hot weather and would not get cool enuff to cycle down.
So I just got done installing another window unit in my bedroom. I allready had one in the kitchen.
Now I will shut the vents on my side of the house down and let all the air go to the other side of the house.
This place really needs a larger a/c unit but untill this one dies my landlord does not want to replace it.
This will bring my power bill up a little but it is still worth it and my power is still way cheeper than it was when I lived in California.

Keep saying things like that and I'm going to move in down the street from you. My bill in August was $400, and that was just to keep the second story liveable.0 -

In California I got used to about $325 on my power bill. Here I can keep it under $200 without much problem unless it gets super cold or super hot for long periods of time.
I am happy as long as I stay under $225 considering that I got kids and I am also guilty of never turning my TV in my room off or my computer.0 -

That is half the problem with my central a/c. I like my house in the mid to low 70's.
This happens to be a little older mobile home and it just is not made to hold the cold air in very well. And the sun beating down on the roof is a killer!
In the winter it is not to bad as far as staying warm and will be even better when I finally get the stack on my fireplace finished.
This mobile was built with a fire place in it from the factory but it never has been used as it is capped off at the roof and only needs the stack finished.0 -

My highest bill, in the summer, has been 185 bucks,......but gee, I am in the A/C business, so I have a very high efficiency unit.
I do, like some of you though,..........TV in the bedroom,.......on all night. Computer,........on almost constantly.
I have a Jacuzzi also, that filters, and heats,...........so I must be "luckin" out, bill wise.
Mobiles are notorious for high power bills,......especially, if older,........and in full sun.
That is of course, a plus in the winter,..........being in the sun, anyway.0 -

My electric bill has never topped $150. And that's with the computer on all the time (I'm sure not drawing much) and the AC running at least half the day. But I was raised to conserve as much as possible. I spend most of the day following the wife and kid around cutting off the lights in rooms they have left.
One question to all. Is it that darn hard to flick the freakin' light switch off when you leave the room?[B)] Wife says, "I'm going to go back in there in a sec.".....Well then flick the little switch back up when you go back in!

Yep, I just retired last year and we moved back to Texas from Oceanside, CA. We had A/C, but we were so close to the ocean that we seldom used it, some years not at all. That's certainly not the case here in Texas.0 -
Gotta stay cool during the hot summertime. My electric bill generally run's about $100.00 a month during summer. It's all about the insulation.[:D] 0 -

I actually could deal with the temp here if it was not for the hummidity.
Back in stockton 100+ was not unusual for daily temps, but the hummidity was darn near zero.

One of my buddies called me a couple of years ago with the same problem with his central air as you are having.I cleaned the coils and replaced the filter.The evaparator coil was crudded up pretty bad.He called the next day and told me his A/C was cold and blowing so hard that it unrolled the toilet paper in the bathroom. 0 -

Our place was built in 1900, drafty as hell. We've replaced the windows and have insulation blown in the attic.
In the winter, $300 gas bills are the norm. Our electric bill never went over $60, even in the summer. We bought an electric fireplace and a spaceheater which ran alot in the winter. The bill never went up. Nice to know your normally paying for electricity that you aren't using. In the dead of summer, the house is a cool 70 degrees and the bill never goes above $100 thanks to some shade trees on three sides.0 -
This summer is going to be terrible!!!! I have counted over TWENTY times in the past hour....slide open......slide shut.....slide ooooopen...slide shut.....open shut open shut open shut. My sliding glass door will be welded shut if they don't STOP!!!!!! 0
