cell phone for home use?

I never bothered getting a cell phone. but now it seems it's actually cheaper than a land line, so I'm thinking about getting one of those instead.

so, I can walk around with a cell phone, but when at home, what do I use besides that? is there something you can plug into ac power and use all the time as a home phone that connects to your cell phone service like another cell phone on your account, so you don't have to constantly recharge your battery?

    We used our cell phones as our home lines for a few years. Never got rid of the cell phones, but we got Vonage to use as our land line.

    $25/mo, and it's great service.

    Yes, I plug mine in when in the car and at home and use it all the time. Most of the time battery is not an issue.

    I use mine all day, just plug in while sleeping. actually has enough juice to go for 2 or three days if I am on the road or forget to plug in

    I got cable internet and a cell phone the same day and said goodbye to the home phone. Monthly cost is still 10 klinkies less than the home phone was...five years ago.... And I have a phone where ever I go... And it has paid off big time too....
    I came across a kid trying to get a kite off a power line with an aluminum pole. I stopped told him he was about to get killed. he said his TEACHER said Aluminum doesn't conduct electricity. Mom comes out tells me to leave and that she thinks the boys teacher might know a little more than me. So I sit on the pole and and call the police... who comes and breaks the pole into 4 or 5 pieces and tells the mother that if there is anymore attempts to remove the kite she would see her butt in jail......
    That same woman flipped me off several times after that.....Oh well!!! So goes the the life of your average under-paid superhero... As my God Daughter says... "I see dumb people" ......

    iPhone as cell + (if you have a fast internet connection) Skype when at home. i think it's the optimal solution.

    depending on how you use your land line cell phone might or might not be cheaper. i have not had a land line for the last 4 years, just my dry loop DSL line (no phone line) and cell phone.

    this is called a cell phone, charger and one extra battery. my work pays my cell phone bill lately so i don't really have a choice of a phone unless i want to buy it myself, but i've had some cheapo nokia for the last 2 1/2 years and the battery lasts quite a bit without a charge. mind though, late cell phones' life expectancy is about 1 - 1 1/2 years, well, at least if it's you only phone and you abuse the hell out of it. my gf and i went through 3 or 4 in the last 2-2 1/2 years so far (mostly because they are abused beyond what they are built for [:D]). in any case, if you don't need a land line for your broadband internet connection, there's only one reason to have -- 911 in extreme cases, but in those extreme cases it's probably useless to call 911 anyways, so you can safely drop your phone company and migrate over to cell, just make sure you have an extra battery.

    Cell phones won't work here. Even though they finally put a tower
    15mi. away, the terrain is to hilly for a cell to work here.

    So I'm stuck with two landlines, but that's ok.[:)]

    we have not had a land line phone in 4yrs,,it is by far cheaper for my wife, son and myself to use cell phones,,$105 a month on a family plan,never run out of minuts with roll over,my wife and myself both use ours as our work phones also..we got rid of close to $500 a month in phone bills when we switched,,,[:D]

    in a hilly area the range is about 3-5 miles, IIFC. so 15 miles away is a little to long. if you have a lot of people needing a tower you could theoretically ask the cell company to put one up but it's probably not worth it to them.

    When we built our new house in spring 2005, we didn't even have phone lines installed! Went all cellular and haven't looked back since. Have had no problems with the batteries running down. I never turn mine off, just plug it up every night. I do have a vehicle charger for "just in case" but have never had to use it. My wife and I, along with our 2 kids, all have cell phones and the cost per month is still cheaper than regular phones. And we have plenty of minutes, not a skimpy plan. We will never go back to a land line phone!!

    I think I'll look into getting that iPhone and either Vonage or Skype for home use.

    Why have two phone bills? A cell phone can do everything your home phone can, and if you are reasonable about charging it, the battery life will rarely or never become an issue.

    I need something permanent and ac powered for home use. when I'm looking for a job, I make a Lot of calls. a battery powered cell phone won't cut it.

    As of now landlines are a lot more reliable than cell phones. also after our Govt starts taxing cell phones like they do with land lines the service fee will be just as crazy as land lines.

    I am in thhe same boat as Spryor....they will not work here either. I pay a rediculous amount of money for internet, phones, cell phones....and I HATE phones!!!!!
