Who buys DVDs....shelves of "entertainment"

I get so aggrivated over the amount of DVDs we have....but I keep buying them. I cannot rent. I just don't have a schedule that works out to rent something. I don't get to watch movies very often....the ones I HAVE seen I really don't care to see a second time.

BUT

My family gets to watch them. I have even bought a few movies two and three times because I didn't know we had them already (since I haven't gotten to watch them.) We have at least three large bookshelves full of DVDs here.....its crazy. I don't usually buy NEW ones, but I get the previously viewed ones all of the time.

    Try one of the rent-by-mail services.

    There are only a very few DVD's I have any desire to own.

    NetFlix and BlockBuster mail rentals have worked well for me.

    I stopped buying DVDs several years ago. Realized it was a waste of money because I never watch the DVDs I own. Its more about satisfying the packrat, 'collector' mentality.

    I buy them, mainly because I nevere know when I will have the time to watch. so I buy them, watch them, I watch them a few times

    I used to buy tons of DVD's. I had over 1200 when I realized I was wasting money and only watching the movie once. I listed them on Ebay in one big auction and sold to a used movie store in Florida. I was also worried that Dvd's would become obsolete and I would be stuck with useless media.

    Now I am a member of Netflix and love it. I spend less than the cost of one DVD/month. I think the first month I watched over 20 dvd's. I believe I have been slowed down by Netflix however but it is still worth it.

    I'd rather buy a used DVD at Blockbuster for one price and watch it 50 times than pay a higher price just to watch it in the theater once.

    I've got one DVD (Last of the Mohicans). We don't watch a lot of movies. My 9 year old has about 10 and hardly watches them. We take them camping incase of bad weather.

    We're on Hollywood Video's "Unlimited" plan ... 19.95/month I can take any 2 at a time, exchange them as often as I want and no late fees.
    If and when I buy a video, 99.8% of the time its a "Previously Viewed" from Hollywood Video ... guaranteed for one year and they know what movies I've already bought from them ... so no duplicates.

    I have the same problem - we have around $600 accept we buy them all new. We are considering going to video on demand (pay per view) now that we have FIOS.

    BTW: We use this online program - totally free and also let's you print out a customized catalog in color. There is also a section to put who borrowed it so you can get it back.

    Much of my generation grew up watching the Saturday kids matinee, with serial, cartoon and movie, and many, like me have been watching movies ever since. We have a sizable collection, but only things we want to see more than once.

    I have three DVDs

    Monty Python Search for the Holy Grail I bought long ago and last week at Wal-Mart I got a 2 DVD pack of 20 John Wayne movies for $5.00.

    I'd hate to have to count how many we have. It's several hundred. I don't have a problem with it. I like to watch movies more than once.

    The only problem I have is that they always got to come out with something "bigger (well, in this case usually smaller) and better". DVD's will be 'out' in a few years. That's not the thing that gets me, either. It's the simple fact that after a while they won't be making dvd players to watch MY dvds. Maybe I don't care about "blue ray". Dvds are all the quality I need.

    I used to buy video cassettes years ago, but quit. We have a handful of DVD's, but not many (15??). We bought a 4 pack of Bogart movies from Sam's a few years ago. Key Largo is a good one. We started watching it on the laptpo about 4-5 times when we stayed over at her dad's house. We always fell asleep and have never seen the ending yet.

    But yes, a few DVD's for the road is a good idea.

    Movie Gallery around here has the five day rental. Anyone can watch and return a movie in five days unless you're on the space shuttle. I buy the movies I like exceptionally well, but sometimes rent if a new release.
    Lots of people sell or pawn DVD's to me (@ $1 ea.) so I hardly ever have to buy or rent, I just watch their copy.

    I have about 200 DVDs, some I have yet to see. I think you need about 500 before you don't feel like you just saw them all.

    My wife does the Blockbuster by mail deal, and I am not sure if she even returns them. They sure lay on the TV for a long time.

    We have a few DVDs brought in the store.....but its usually crappy movies. I'm not in a good area to have any decent movies brought to us.
