Actually, in my state guns are legal on school grounds but not inside any school buildings. Some states prohibit firearms on school grounds and given the recent school shootings we can understand how some folks, even cops under orders to enforce the law, might get excited at first when dealing with a situation involving a gun on school property.

I very much agree and understand how an officer would be "concerned" when dealing with a similar situation. The small school my kids go to is the same small school I graduated from....when I was 15 I walked down the middle of the hall with a rifle that my father had donated to this very school for a fundraiser....this is the school where at least 10 of my graduating class is now teaching (along with the vice principal)...this very school is where every major event in this teeny town is discussed at great length by the board-out-of-their-mind busy bodies....so, they know me VERY well and know what I do...what my family has always done and I am 99% certain that they are confidant that I am no terrorist or threat to anyone. I am not saying load up and go to school.....but that the officer knew me (or knew of me) well enough to not go into the "four alarm fire" rant he did.

I would think that it might make sense to hide any guns carried in an automobile, in the trunk if you have one. To insure that carjacker types would not be attracted to steal or break into the car. Or...that an officer would not see the weapon and become concerned.

I always covered up my guns when hauling them to the woods in my SUV with a blanket to avoid concerned citizens getting the wrong idea.

That said I am sure that since this is your business you probably look at firearms as a product to sell and haul them around like hydrox cookies to a sunshine salesman. I also.understand that as an FFL you probably know the gun laws better that most of the rest of us.

I do see how people that carry guns all the time become so comfortable with them that they could screw up and walk into an airport with them. Its a simple mistake and should be viewed as such but alas our government does not allow for "simple mistakes" when it comes to packing guns.

When I was in High School in Pittsburg Kansas 78 thru 81, half of the pickups in the parking lot, including mine, had rifles and shotguns in gun racks in the back window.

The BOSS is awesome. Cousin has one on a Browning 7mm. It has less kick than a Reminton 700 .270 without a suppressor.
