thinking about putting this up for sale
i'm thinking about selling the 1917 to finance either a new 204 cal gun or a better scope and bipod for the new 22-250 i just bought. anyway here are some picks of the 1917 it has a unick hand carved deer scene in the stock. the rear open sight is broken on this but i'm told they are easy to find a new one. this has a barska 3-9x50 optic scope on it. now i know some of you are going to say the scope is crap and i had planned on changing it. but when i went to shoot this gun the scope held a good pattern so i figured why mess with it. any way i need a ruff guess as to what this is worth. this is a Winchester model 1917.

Purists cringe, but there's just something about a nicely sporterized old warhorse that reminds me of (what I consider) the Golden Age of Sporting Firearms in America.
Or maybe I'm just a nostalgia freak.

It reminds me of what a hunting rifle ought to look like. Look around at what's in your gunshops' racks - they may be newer, they may hold a little tighter group, but NONE of them have this kind of character. And, if it's a .303 Brit, it'll kill anything you are likely to run across. The .303 Enfields that I have had/shot would stay right with a .30-06 right out to 500 yards, which is the farthest I have ever shot one.
I have no idea what it is worth, can't really tell the condition of the action or bore. As far as the 'scope goes, it needs a vintage Redfield or Leupold to round it out - although the scope would likely be worth more than the rifle(subtle hint to get the price down).
What kind of money are you looking for ??

i dont know what i want to ask for it thats kinda why i posted this question. but if your interested in it i will more then likely put it up for auction. unless its not worth that much. then i will probably just keep it. never know when a extra 30-06 will come in handy.0 -

I have seen them go for anywhere from 200.00 to around 400.00 but its a sellers market. What are you looking to get?????? I just missed buying one at a flea market it was in 270 win. mint condition and the guy wanted 175.00 I saw it right after a guy looked at it and told the guy he had to go get some money from his wife and darn it he came back and bought it[:(] 0 -

the gun is a 30-06 and the barrel is in really good condition. i dont really know how to rate a barrel but i compared it to to the new savage barrel and they look the same both have same amount of rifling 0 -

If you change your title to: "Enfield Model 1917 Winchester 30-06" before you get any bids, you'll get more looks. May or may not add "sporter" in the title, depending on if it fits.
