What are my guns worth?
Hi, I know next to nothing about guns, but recently inherited a large number of next to new and seemly very valuable guns. I'd like to get a general idea of what they are worth to verify what I'm being told by the person I have put them on consignment with. Here are a few:

Their value is highly influenced by their overall condition and whether they've been modified, not to mention your geographic location. Gunbroker is an excellent resource to use when trying to value a gun: just do a search on completed auctions for your type of gun and see what it actually sold for. Other than this and other auction sites, I know of no online resource to value guns.
Pictures help a lot when trying to value a gun. Take some good pix and post them. Cross-post this with pix to the ask the experts forum.
That said, I'll be your gripe and look some stuff up in the Blue book of gun values (2006 edition). I'm NOT skilled in valuing guns. I'm just looking stuff up that's easy for me to look up. I'm assuming each gun is in 98% condition, and am making additional assumptions as necessary (basically, that there's nothing special about the gun). I know almost nothing about scope valuation; these values do not reflect the scope value. The difference in price from NIB to 100% to 98% to 95% can be substantial, so take this only as a rough starting point.

Regarding the question about the condition of the guns... They are brand new in many cases as they were purchased by my uncle who had ample interest in buying guns, but seemingly little interest in puting them to use. I guess I'm just trying to get a baseline idea of what I can expect these guns to fetch in consignment to verify the person at the gun store isn't taking advantage of my lack of knowledge on the topic. 0 -

Dude don't take them to a pawn shop for cryin out loud, you'll never even get close to what theyre worth. Best case is to either list them in the classifieds or list them on online possibly starting them at a penny no reserve auction. You'll get the most for them that way, ask the member here nammed LocustFork who does it all the time.0 -
....Gold Cup...send me an em, find it buy clicking on my user name...and tell me if it is all original, where any blueing wear is located, series(?).. pre 70, 70, 80, etc., serial number and I can tell you what year it was made, any dings, scrathes, "idiot scratch" or not..the mark dummies make when putting the slide release back in...and I can get you pretty close...[;)]

Order yourself the BLue Book...its available online and lists the guns, how to grade them, what to look for etc and then gives prices...Almost every dealer has one,..seems to be "The Bible" when it comes to prices..

Standard Catalog of Firearms...
I prefer the Catalog of Firearms as it lists more firearms, gives more information about the manufacturer, what to look for in firearms, the difference in models and also lists prices ...A lot of very good info in the book0 -
Leave me get this straight. You put 9 guns on cosignment for sale and now think the seller may not sell them for what they are worth? Why didn't you get a second opinion if you think they are selling the guns too cheap? Do they still have all 9 or have some sold? If they still have them sounds like they are asking too much or they are priced fairly ? Hopefully the seller will see this forum, read the thread and tell you to come pick up the firearms cause you don't trust them. 0 -

As an uncle who is also leaving my firearms to a nephew,i would ask you to reconsider selling them ,he obviously thought alot of you or he wouldn't have left them to you,you will soon regret this decsion to sell after the money has burned a hole in your pocket and is gone,didn't you and your uncle ever discuss this? this is a sad day for you my friend[V][:(],Loko 0 -

Springfield socom II w Acog will easily bring more like $1800. Over $2100 if you split them up if it is an expensive ACOG model.
You should list them all here, people will bid up price if you list too low.

Whatever you decide to do.....this is the very worst time of year to sell a gun. The kids are out of school, people just blew the income tax money they had a month ago and are punishing themselves for it.....there are no critters to kill and the hot sticky weather makes people stay away from the gun stores.

It does matter what part of the country you are in regarding the laws for selling firearms. What general area are you selling from?
I suspect a Gold Cup is worth in the range of $800-1300 unless it is a special edition and then the price goes up from there. Check the blue book and tie in your serial numbers to locate the correct model/value. Values depend on the age and condition of the firearms.0 -
The only way to really be certain your guy is being fair is to know the amount he sells them for. If he sells one of your guns right now for $500 and you get $400 to $450 (depending on what he charges) what you don't know is that one of his buddies may be the buyer...and it could end up on line for sale going for twice that.
BUT...that is a LOT of trouble to go to...I have heard of it happening, but most stores are so busy with everything they have going on it isn't a regular problem. The only way to really be certain you are getting top dollar is to list them for sale yourself here on Gun Broker. That way you have no doubts they go for the most you can get.
It isn't as hard as you think to do this....get detailed pics of your guns...post a question on each one here on the forums...also another post on the "ask the experts" is a good place to get info. Tell everyone you are looking to sell these guns and are looking for information to help them sell....gun people like telling what they know (look at how I am rambling on!!) You can list one to three at a time on line...make certain to list in the ad that this is a "NO return sale....you are not a gun collector and are unfamiliar with firearms...only selling an inherited set of firearms...and they should get all the information they need from your pictures or ask questions." If anyone asks questions you can post them here and they will answer them. All you need to know is you MUST have an FFL license to ship each gun to....it should be mailed to a dealer for the person who is buying the gun to do the transfer papers. You have to give the dealer accepting the gun a copy of your ID so he can log the firearm into his books from you. Make shure you get payment in some guaranteed form...like certified checks or money orders. If you ship a handgun it must be sent overnite using Fed Ex or UPS unless you have an FFL send your gun for you to the recieving dealer.
Not hard.
Take pics...post on forums...list autions (no more than three at a time for a "newby" is a big suggestion)...get FFL and payment...send gun to buyer's FFL.0
