Realtor rant

A house went on the market in my neighborhood on Friday. I called the listing company today (SATURDAY) and got an answering machine saying the office is closed. I thought maybe all the lines were busy but after FOUR friggin tries, I gave up. What kind of a residential real estate company is not open on a SATURDAY? It was Prudential by the way, not some small locally owned outfit. Then I called another realty company (Caldwell Banker) to find out if it was on the MLS yet, it was not. They are not supposed to put up a sign until it's on the MLS. Then I walked over to the house and called the listing agent and got his home answering machine. Called his home later on and his wife answers, she says I can get him on his cell and gives me the number.

EIGHT friggin phone calles to find out what the listing price is on this house!

Why did'nt the fool put his cell number on the sign to begin with? And he should switch to a real estate company that answeres it's phone on a Saturday.

OK... I feel better now.

    Just go right up, knock on the door and talk to the homeowner. You can learn all kinds of stuff from the homeowner that the realtor will never tell you.
    It is big time in your advantage to talk to the homeowner, this is why the realtor will try to prevent you from talking to the homeowner.

    Chill out. It's a holiday weekend. Probably out enjoying his long weekend. A call to his office Tuesday will probably get your questions answered.

    In general, real estate agents are slime.

    That is why my Wife and I left that business some time ago. It is a back stabbing, lying, cheating, stealing, dishonest way to make a living. And anyone with an ounce of Honor would never do it.

    Nobody was home. There was a moving truck parked there yesterday.

    If you are in the real estate business or car business (I've been in both), you expect to have to work weekends and holidays. That's when people are out looking at homes or cars to buy! You won't last long in either business if you take weekends off.

    Bought my first home that way. Realtor showed us the home.. quickly.. homeowner was there and Realtor didn't want us speaking to them by rushing us thru... Well I went back by the home on a Sunday evening and the homeowner was outside. I stopped , was invited in and sat down for an hour and spoke business. Homeowner was asked what bottom dollar was and we negotiated. Then they called the Realtor on Monday. Realtor was fuming mad I went over there and negotiated.

    Go fire up your bbq, cook something good, have a drink or two, and call the guy on Tuesday. Just because he is in real estate and you used to be, doesn't mean on a holiday weekend he has to sit by the phone waiting for folks to call.

    At one time I was a licensed RE Broker in Tennessee. As soon as the homeowner signs the listing agreement, a sign can be placed in the yard whether it's listed in MLS or not. I wouldn't have my cell phone number painted on the sign either.

    I had one house I wanted to look at....it has a sign that looks sort of "home made" so I had no IDEA what to expect when I called the number. Turned out to be a listing held by the guy who owns the golf course down the road. He was IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with...but of course nobody could help me BUT HIM!!! The secretary started getting huffy with us for calling too much.... I told her I had planned on going to the property owner and leaving a note telling how much trouble we were having. She told me "good luck with that" and hung up on me.

    I found out later that this old guy....when his wife died actually MARRIED his secretary!!! I give her 6 months after he dies to blow all he has left her....she sounded very "low class" and isn't helping him keep what he has even before it gets left to her!
