models and guns in a photo shoot
so i am an amatuer photographer and sometimes i photograph models. there is a popular theme with girls and guns but i have never done an image like that. however, i was on a modeling/photography website and people are debating whether its safe or responsible to have a model point a real gun at the photographer for a dramatic picture.
now i am assuming the gun is unloaded and has been checked by the photographer but what do you guys think of this ? on one hand i have ALWAYS believed you should NEVER point a gun at a person unless you intended to shoot them. i have NEVER pointed a gun at a person, even when i knew it was unloaded. i just dont do it.
however, for the purposes of a photo shoot if i personally check the gun and know for a fact its unloaded i just might consider it. i dont know, what do you guys think ?

That "assuming" part is probably where the "unloaded guns kill people" saying originated.
Personally I dont like/allow a gun I KNOW is unloaded to be pointed at me, just funny that way, getting shot HURTS...[;)]

Sooner or later someone will probably tell you that you're helping to perpetuate the foolish behavior that leads to accidental shootings because monkey see, monkey do. I wouldn't dispute that argument.
On the other hand, I've checked a revolver and then asked somebody to point it at me, just to see what it looked like. And if I wanted that image as a photographer, I'd make it--after checking the gun, of course.
And now somebody's going to correct me for the use of 'accidental shooting.' So just substitute 'negligent shooting' for that term.
Edit: Brandon Lee died during a film shoot because somebody failed to check the gun that was fired at him. The revolver was supposed to be loaded with a blank. As far as I know, they never figured out exactly what went wrong.0 -

US fighter or bomber aircraft CAN NOT fly with nuclear weapons loaded. If one of our planes were to leave the ground with a nuke loaded, it would be an act of war according to the STAR treaty. Nuclear weapons must be transported in a form and method in which they can't be used as a weapon.0 -

so what exactly did happen to brandon lee ? they say he was shot with a blank gun ? how is that even possible ? either someone loaded a real bullet into the weapon or something not possible actualyl happened ? i cant believe that case hasnt been investigated more thoroughly. something is fishy.
on a side note - i went to junior high with him and his sister. their mom worked at our school too. very nice people.0 -

Not being picky, but are you sure it wasn't the START I treaty? That wasn't proposed until 1982 and wasn't finalized until 2001. I have a good friend who flew B-52's in the old SAC. He flew with nucs.0 -

Wikipedia has a plausible explanation that goes something like this: film-makers use blanks (for firing scenes), and they use inert cartridges (shell, bullet, no primer or powder) for scenes when a revolver needs to be filmed from the front--so that it looks right. The film crew was running late and had no inerts, so they made their own by removing the powder from a live round. The gun was fired; the primer pushed the bullet into the barrel. In a subsequent scene, a blank pushed the squib round out of the barrel and into Brandon Lee.
There is some controversy about whether this is the real story, not least of which because (as I heard it) actors will often aim just off-target even when shooting a blank, for safety reasons.0 -

I have guns pointed at me everyday, that's what happens when you work at a gun shop, it does not make me feel un-safe, I know that they are unloaded, it doesn't freak me out or anything, it's just something that happens. Big deal.

With great misgivings I allowed a buddy to talk me into pointing my unloaded nickle S&W 29 at his camera.
It was a polaroid shot. When he passed away I asked his brother if I could get that photo back but it wasn't found.0 -

Well, in recent years have been teaching my grandkids to shoot. Rule 1 is, of course, never point a gun at anything you do not intend to destroy. And you already know that. Ref: injuries from blank rounds- blanks simply lack a metallic bullet. The gasses and wadding are quite capable of injuring or killing you at very close range. This is ONE of the reasons the US military uses a BFA (Blank Firing Attachment) on weapons in training- to reduce (not eliminate) the danger distance. 0 -
After you are absolutely sure the firearm is empty don't take your eyes off it until you are done taking photos. If you do let it out of your sight check it again before you resume. Some anti gun people think it is helpful to their cause to have a accidential discharge and are not above helping one happen. 0 -
I think those pictures take away from the gun....and make for a loss of profit. Anyone who thought this out would agree. Pics with a cheesy model = person of lesser class and will make less money on the sale of the gun (unless you are selling a Tec 9 or similar firearm.) 0
