e-mail rant
I didn't want to hijack burdz19's thread. But with today's latest and greatest technology, who is fed up? It seems to me that e-mail is getting out of control. I work for a smaller company and I can walk in to my boss's office every morning and talk to him. But when ti comes to closing out a job or anything else he wants an e-mail. It would be much easier for me to put most of the stuff on a flash drive and walk twenty feet to his office but he wants me to download it all to my computer, hook up to the internet and send it in an e-mail. We no longer send text messages, he will send me an e-mail that consists of only one sentance. The e-mail takes 10-20 minutes to get to my phone where a text message will arrive in a matter of seconds. I get probably 20 e-mails a day, which is nothing compared to some people. My boss gets like 80 a day. And half of the stuff is something that can easily be taken care of with a two minute phone conversation.
So what's the deal with e-mail? In some cases it's good but a lot of times its a waste. It seems like people like to use e-mail in business situations just because it's some exciting new form of technology. But it's really not that new, and not always convenient. Then when I make it all day without getting an e-mail I wonder if something is wrong with my blackberry. And when I ask for certain paper work my boss says "didn't you get the e-mail I sent you?" Well no, if you would use your dang printer and hand me a piece of paper it would save us both a bunch of work.

Short and sweet:
With the spate of spam and scam e-mails, most of what enters my in-box gets summarily dumped. Now and then I find a piece of 'junk' that is not junk.
USE A SUBJECT LINE THAT MAKES IT CLEAR WHAT YOU'RE REPRESENTING. (Yelling with thought).
Seriously, if I don't recognize the name and the subject is something like "newsletter," I'm usually going to trash it without opening it.

My e-mail is usually full of vendors offers and forewarded messages from my mother-in-law. She is sweet...but my brother has had to "fix" her computer numerous times because of viruses she has gotten from these cute little messages she gets and sends on to me. I NEVER open them.
I have made it a habit of trashing the "junk" before I even start to open my messages.....just so I don't accidentally open something. I once did open something from a pharmacy type thing and I haven't ever stopped getting those types of e-mail junk.0
