Transfer question
Thankyou for all your help so far, all have been very helpfull. One last question before I put the Pistol up for auction though. This handgun was given to me by my Father so I do not have any of the original purchase or registration papers. It was obviously originnally registered to him but he has since passed away and I am power of attorney. Will this be a problem when it comes time to tranfer to the new owner? Thankyou again for all the helpfull responses I've recieved.

and welcome aboard , unless you live in one of the 'commy-states' for the rest of us , there is No Such Thing as Registation ...You need to check with your local law enforcement as per these details .
If you do indeed live in such an anti-gun state , consider moving !!!

In Pa. You can transfer a pistol to a family member,(IE.a son) without the normally required background check and FFL being involved.
When you sell it, you may want to use an FFL to ship it out of state, if you sell it in state, using an FFL will be required.
At least that is my understanding.0 -
I did plan to take it to a dealer to ship it to the new owner after it sells- I just didn't want to run into any snags with paperwork after an auction would have ended. -Thanks 0 -
You don't have to send it through a dealer....only if the buyer's end requires it come in from a dealer. You can ship the gun through Fed Ex or UPS yourself. It will be required that it be shipped overnite (but that is the company's policy...not any law or regulation requiring it be done this way.) Only an FFL holder is able to "mail" a handgun using US Postal Service....not that my post office has ever checked. 0
