Man invented guns to protect himself from other men and beasts. Ever since the invention of firearms, Man has continued to improve and develope better weapons.

The United States government was supportive of this endeavor for most of the years this country has been around. The Government is now overly involved in a man's rights to protect himself from other men and beasts and it has been down hill ever since...

    Did I miss anything ? [;)]

Man has learned to convert chemical energy into mechanical energy in the form of firearms. These devices cause bits of metal to be hurled at great speeds toward a target.
The past 400 years has been directed at refining the componets (launcher, propellent, projectile) to become as small, as self-contained, as efficent, and as lethal as possible.

Its funny how something takes over your thoughts....

Being around a lot of guns all of the time you would think I would be thinking of other things...but no...its guns pretty much all of the time these days. And how much VERIZON sucks...but I won't go there ringht now.

Anyway, who thinks they can get the history of guns with as many IMPORTANT details in the shortest amount of words. Accuracy is key here. I think I smell a giveaway!

Let me come up with a good "something" for this one. We all need to put on our thinking caps. I depend on everyone to look these over and tell me if there are any wrong facts that I may miss. Just because it may be longer than some entries isn't bad if you hit on major facts that shouldn't be skipped.

Who here REALLY knows how we got where we are today????

If you are serious, please let us know what size you are hoping for and what "important" details you would specifically like mentioned. Roughly 250 words will fit on a typed (size 12) single sheet of paper.

    I'm serious....really. How about a real giveaway?

What about a gun....to be transferred to an FFL for the winner. I have handy a Ruger Mark II .22 lr 6 7/8" bull barrel. This I can do.

Real history that changed what was the "norm" has to be included. What started everything....how did it change when a war came along...what inventions in metals were so important everything went in a new direction.

I really don't mean for this to be...."sticks didn't kill the critters fast enough" report. I know we had black powder...damascus barrels....30-40 krag....03-A3...M1 garrands...etc. I just get the chain of events all screwed up in my head. Sometimes its funny how one track I can be.....but I have a short attention span (thank you television) so I know I can't pay attention through a LONG nasty report.

I will print out each entry and have the people I know help me look into this. I really would like a down to the "bare facts" idea of how we are where we are now.

sweaver..You've been to Vacation Bible School..I remember at abnout ten years old I attended one. All the kids had to memorize and recite a bible verse on the last day. The girls had super ones, but there were maybe fifteen or twenty boys who stood up and said, "Jesus wept."[:D]
