AK mag tough to remove???

I have one AK mag that slides in perfectly and works fine but it is tough as heck to remove. The mag release take alot of force to release it. What would most likely be the issue with it? I have 4 others that work fine. The AK is a SAR-1.

    my brother has that same problem with one of his mags, not sure what it is, i think his may be the 5 rounder, or not, anyway im interested in seeing this too!

    The little "nub" that locks in the mags is sometimes THICKER than the original ones made for the gun. Take a dremmel or grinder to the bottom of the nub (NOT the top....the top will not help to thin it there.) If you make that nub thinner it will help. That is what we have to do to the Romanian AK mags for them to work in the Russian guns.

    We also make it so the shells will feed a bit better.....by taking the front points off of the top of the mag where the shell's case would begin. If you round the points on that part it will not jam where if the points are left you have a larger chance at problems.

    If you came into our store with your gun and your mags I would check to see if any of my mags would work better in your gun...and I would switch with you for any o mine that would work. I bet if you took your gun down along with your mags your local stores will work with you on this the same way.

    Are you talking about the nub on the rear of the mag (closer to the trigger)? I will get the dremel out tonight and check it out. Unfortunately the gun stores in my area would do nothing of the sort. Alot of times they make it seem like you are bothering them even when you ask them a simple question.

    Yes...the nub on the rear of the mag. Check to see if it is any different on your working mags and the one that doesn't. If that nub is "fatter" on the bad mag....that is your problem.

    Locust Fork, thank you!!! I literally put the Dremel to it for about 10 seconds, tried it in the rifle and it is perfect now. What a quick fix.

    For those that need help with this same issue, here is a pic of a mag and I circled where you need to grind. Just on the bottom of this tab.

    You need more AK mags. Last time I loaded up all my mags before going to the range. I put 600rds down range without having to reload one mag.

    I meant to bring a couple home to get pics....glad it worked for you. The Russian AKs come with the plastic mags and we put the steel ones with them. We have to fix each and every one to fit. The Saigas won't even let the mags lock in unless you grind on them a bit. The Russian guns also tend to jam unless you round off the points at the top where the bullets feed out of the mag. I use a belt sander for those points. Easy as pie (well.....pie is hard so its EASIER than pie.)
