That is sad that a minor incident could turn into a major crime.[:0][:0] A good lesson for us all, I guess!

Geez, what would he have done if the guy had called him something more colorful than a nerd....

" Anderson, who owns Museum of Horrors Haunted House "

" The trailer, located behind the haunted house, was a total loss."

Might I suggest some alternate suspects?

Does anyone know what the whereabouts of Scooby, Shaggy, and the mystery van were at the time of the incident?

NASA's hiring crazy astronauts who like to wear diapers.

The Navy's hiring folks with an unhealthy obsession with fire.

I guess the words "background check" mean nothing to these folks nowadyas, eh?

    EMM...

Background checks are fine for checking the criminal background of a person but they do NOTHING for the emotional/mental state of the person NOW...

A person will pass the check with no problems, be perfectly fine until later on....Things happen, pressure of the job/home life etc and the person does things they wouldnt ordinarily do....

Take out the word fire, and how many here would fit the description?...

Russell Tavares was a clean-cut 25-year-old entrusted with "very high clearance" in missile and fire control in the U.S. Navy, officials say.
Beware of vague wording by the media that invites people to read into things. Drama sells and can be created by only telling selected portions of a story.

It doesn't say he actually worked with active missiles or fire control systems, was in charge of anything or even had clearance to enter a ship's fire control center. Also notice they fail to state his rank/rating.

In truth all they're telling us is that he was a Navy member who performed some sort of function in that general field, possibly not even on board a ship.

Their wording could be used to describe someone working in a shop where maintenance of a single fire control or missile system component is conducted, not necessarily a guy in the fire control center with his finger on the button.

As for the statement about his "very high security clearance", notice they chose not to state what level he actually held? These days even the guy who cleans the heads on a warship has to hold a security clearance.

Their description sounds like what a young sailor might say when trying to impress women in a bar.

I didn't know you could take a "leave of absence" from the Armed Services. At least I don't remember that being an option available to me when I was in the Navy. Is this one of the benefits of the new kinder gentler Armed Services?

In the 'new' Navy that called a "petty break."

If I've called anyone on this forum a nerd, I apologize. [:)]

"And then he said he was going to kill me."
Seriously, if someone said that they were going to kill me, either on the telephone, internet, or any other way, I would take what ever action necessary to make sure they didn't.

I believe there was a case in New Jersey a couple of years ago where a guy got into it w/some Muslims on the internet. Who then somehow tracked him down and murdered him AND his family.
