I've got a question for farmers.
Why is it that so many of you feel the need to drive down the 2 lane rural highways @ 20 MPH BELOW the speed limit?
I'm not talking about in your tractors & combines etc. I mean in your friggin pickup truck.
As a trucker I have learned to litterally DEtest farmers. I can't begin to count how many times I've got stuck behind some slowpoke farmer who won't drive the speed limit OR move over and let traffic go by.
Do you know that a loaded semi truck truck needs about a mile of straight flat road THAT HE CAN SEE to get that rig wound back up enough to pass you?
And I also can't count how many near head on collisions I've witnessed when some yo-yo from the back of the rural parade you've started has tried to pass you, me and all the 15 vehicles stacked up behind me. All because of your inconsideration for your fellow motorist.
Maybe you don't punch a time clock. But other people do. And truckers get paid by the mile.
You can deduct the contibutions that I might given to "Farm Aid" from the money you've cost over te years from being stuck behind you as you tooled down the highway @ 40 MPH.
The irony is that when you get to town and find that your needed part hasn't arrived, it's very possible that it's stuck behind one of your fellow farmers somewhere doing 20 MPH below the speed limit.0 -
i really do not like truckers that ride my bumper at 75 mph and pass going up hills, pass a line of stopped traffic when cars are coming in the other lane, watched a line of 5 trucks blow thru US 50 & 281 intersection at 70 mph without stopping, truckers so stoned they weaved all over the oncoming lane, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum....so if there is no minimum speed limit posted i suppose all these offenders owe fatstrat an apology for the gross inconvenience of in any way hindering his right drive anywhere anytime unimpeded 0 -

fatstrat,well you'll never have that problem with me....if its on the road and i can see it i'll be going around it around 80 plus mph.....around here all farmers have semi's alot have two, we have three now.....i dout you'll have that trouble around here with farmers. we all know about driving a semi! when we are hauling grain to town we'll pry blow your doors off.[:X]0 -
The difference between you and me is that I'll be the 1st to say that there's alot of bad truckers out there. And I won't attempt to defend or justify their unsafe practices. I'm sorry that you're not man enough to do the same. 0 -
All I can say is IF you do not like the way a farmer drives then DO NOT thank anyone including the Lord for the food you eat, the fuel in your truck, and the clothes on your back because some where down that SLOw road you we farmers travel, a farmer had a hand in it all. Hope you do not get behind me as I drive by any of my farms because I slow down to 30 to see how many cows I can see or IF there is a pronlem I need to go in and check on. As to open road, do not ride my butt because like cow doc I am running well over the spped limit and if ylou are on my butt, you are driving way too unsafe. By the way when I see the number to call mon a rig about their driving AND tehy are driving dangerous, I call.
Never seen the tumble weeds in one BUT have seen the swamp deal. In Ohio they run some combines with tracks and others with high floatation tires. Only ground I have seen water sit on a hill side in Ohio where I deer hunt some.0 -

Reminds me, Dad was combining beans this year for his cousin. Another neighbor came in the field with a tan pickup. He intented to fill the combine up with diesel. Dad was heading west into the late afternoon sun. Tan pickup. Tan soybean stuble. Oh yeah, Dad is blind in one eye.
Turned the combine right into the passanger door. Nearly tipped the pickup over before he saw it and stopped. Bent the door, cab and dented the box.
Bean head suffered little damage. Bent a bracket on the snout. It wasn't 18 inched but was over $500. It looked like it had to be hand made. Jigs and robots couldn't do it. Dad and Uncle drove out the distribution center in the Quad Cities. It is nice to have the Distribution Center only 1.5 hours away. It's close enough if you need it.0 -
I know what you're doing. So tell me,what's the problem when you see that that your causing a traffic backup and people are riskig their lives to try to pass the parade you've started, with pulling over and letting traffic pass by? Take care of your business AND have some consideration for others.
Is that too much to ask?
Just because you started driving a hay truck at age 10 w/o going to drivers Ed doesn't mean the common rules of the road don't apply to you.0
