Individual Acts of Aggression
The Constitution guarantees us the right to protect our selves. The problem comes when people believe society is safer without individual protection and we forgo that right to the government to protect us. If we truly think it is the governments responsibility to protect us from any and all intruders, terrorists, and psychopaths within our borders, then America needs to become an oppressive police state with a strong military or police presence everywhere. This is the only way America can be protected from individual acts of aggression. This is the solution the liberals want, less freedom and not more, but is for your protection.
Every time there is an individual act of aggression, they point the freedom as the cause. This logic is as foolish as saying LA riots were a result of the abuse of the Freedom of Speech, or a right to assembly caused the Chicago riots of '69. Clearly this logic from our more liberal politicians is flawed, or the logic could be applied to other rights given in the Bill of Rights.
The is another option. America needs to honor and respect the Constitution as is was written. Rather than erode our freedoms given to us by the Second Amendment, we need ALL the freedom given to us by the Constitution. We need to recognize that the Second Amendment gives us the right to protect ourselves. It is not the governments responsibility to protect us from individual acts of aggression, but our own. Any unconstitutional law the prevents us from protecting ourselves, encourages tragic outcomes.

The Founding Fathers believed our citizens were responsible enough to use the "Freedom of Speech". Our Founding Fathers also believed we are capable of using the Freedom of Personal Protection. This is why the Second Amendment is included in the Bill of Rights. Unfortunately, some politicians think we are not capable of using this freedom properly.

While my use of english is not as good as some, the argument can be made without using the words "firearms" or "guns". No reference needs to be made to Virginia Tech, Utah, or any other current event.
We can define the argument on our terms. Just as it was to reform welfare, it had to be explained on a higher level than just "starving the old and poor" or "forcing grandmothers to eat cat food". Healthcare socialization's biggest advocates come from those that use emotion and not logic to argue for the need nationalized healthcare.
If the debate for more or less gun control is at the liberal's emotional level, we are in trouble. The argument for less gun control has to be made with more logic and less emotion. Perhaps too much effort is being used to prevent more gun control. More effort needs to made to argue the need for less control and more freedom.

I think that for many Americans pride in our Nation, our Constitution, our heritage and our way of life has steadily dwindled (eroded?) because of the exaggerated sense of self entitlement that has grown and now prevailed since the 70's. A lot of folks simply do NOT care about the big picture - only their paycheck, their house, their SUV, their pleasures, their fun, etc.
Also, I do not see this great Nation as being truly "one" in essence anymore, where folks from all over the world come to and get assimilated into it. Rather, we are a cacaphony of seriously independent social, economic and political factions - each demanding the "right" AND the means to maintain their own identity, language, culture, mores, customs, status, etc.
So, where can the pride in being American actually be? How many immigrants do you think can actually recite the Pledge of Allegiance in English upon attaining citizenship? Do you think it even matters to most? Seriously, let go of the loftier and almost farcical "all the world is beautiful" belief surrounding immigration and citizenship. For many, it's probably just a very convenient means to an economic end and nothing more.
Our once great Nation is fast en route to becoming the most "vanilla" and politically correct country in the world, literally a mere stopping place for anyone and everyone to come to, decorate and accessorize just like it was their former home.
Come here, work hard, make a better living, bring over more relatives who also work hard and make good money, have and enjoy many of the good things in life and yet dig their heels in to ensure that the way of life they grew up knowing in their former home is preserved intact AND officially recognized, applauded and protected here in America.
Face it - we no longer have a true "American way of life". I'm waiting for the day when every native-born American child will be forced by the educational system to learn Spanish and Chinese along with English (by then probably an afterthought) and when employers will use those other languages as a standard criteria for hiring, just like a high school diploma or Bachelors Degree.
And so, why should the typical new Americans these days even care about the Constitution or its meaning when political correctness is actually what defines our rights? Freedom of speech and religion, taken as just one example, is actually nowadays dictated and governed by the political correctness climate of America - not the black-letter wording of the 1st Amendment.
BTW and FWIW, all four of my grandparents stepped off the boat from Italy in the very early days of the 20th Century. My father was born here in the U.S. and brought up as an American. He and my mom made sure we were as well. Yes, we had our Italians customs and traditions - particulary around the holidays - but learning and speaking Italian was not one of them. My mom and my father, a WWII vet from the Pacific Theater, were adamant that we go to school, use only English and get a good American education so that we could aspire to an even better life.

The country has lost all citizen rights and what we are now going thru are merely the stumbling blocks until a Dictator or Communism takes final control until our demise.
Who wants to take over Canada with me and form our own country?0
