I think I found my next rifle
I've been in the market for a good lever gun for a while now and I think I found it. Marlin 1895 in 45/70 with a Lyman receiver peep sight. Yes, I do believe that would be the epitome of lever guns. (Lyman sight isn't included with the rifle, I'll have to add it)

Not that I know of. Are you sure that the rear sight is dovetailed? 0 -
Nice rifle. 0 -
I have yet to buy it, I'm just guessing on how the rear sight attaches to the barrel. 0 -

Have you ever considered a Browning? Nice shooting...even if it is made in Japan.0 -
Cat:
Go ahead and get the 1895 and set it up just as you plan...you'll like it. You can always find 45-70 ammo., not necessarily the others mentioned.
I've got one set up that way except my sight is from Williams. It will put 2 shots touching with the 3rd always just missing the other 2 @ 100 yards. (From a bench....not standing on my hind legs).
Williams also has a slot blank for about $7.00 for when you take the factory rear off.
