rant / millarty funeral ??

my step father in law past away tuesday and we had the funeral yesterday.both my M.i.l and F.I.L was in a nursing home in Miss until katrina hit 2 yrs ago then his kids came and picked him up to take him to Ga. Momma Hazel and George was married 20 yrs his kids hasn't had anything to do with him until Katrin hit. When the american legion did the presentation of the flag if went to the daughter which broke my mil heart shouldn't the flag have to the wife no one expressed their displeasure and let the matter drop out of respect to a american hero

    I don't know the answer, but do want you to know i am sorry for your loss. You would think that the wife would get the flag though.

    I would think that there would have been a disscution about who got the flag with the person who made the arrangements.

    I know this was disscussed for my grandfathers funeral. But my grandfathers funeral was preformed my the Navy and not a Veterans Organization.

    Sorry to hear of your step fathers passing.

    When my Grandfather was buried. The Honor Guard ask the family who shall receive the flag before ceremonies at the grave site began. The family chose to give it to the oldest living child. It has since been displayed in each of the kids home for a year and then passed to the next brother or sister during Christmas.

    Normaly it is pre-arranged by the funeral director.

    Have to concur with other posters about the flag presentation was probably discussed prior.

    As to the question about "should daughter have been presented flag because of an estranged relationship".... hard to say without knowing more details.

    However, estranged or not, blood is blood ! His children are his legacy, his blood is in thier veins, he lives as long as they and their children live. Regardless of a clash in ideals or dis-agreements. Kin is kin !

    MY MIL WAS TO BE PRESENTED THE FLAG BUT THE DAUGHTER RECEIVED IT INSTEAD
