I have always had great respect for this group.

I am from rural PA where there is no local police dept and the sheriff office runs the jail and courts, they do not patrol. So if you call the police a trooper shows up. I also have always held them in high regard. They are a professional force. Many other police depts around the country would do well to learn from the PSP. 0 -
My story:
Our High school had a one way direction road in front of it....my sister called after a dance to go to pick her up and there is no one around....dang I got there late.....so I took a shortcut.....I drove the wrong way around in front of the school.....after all I'm in the sticks....no one is around.
This renta cop jumps out at my car and strikes it with a huge mag light putting a huge dent in the quarter panel. I proceed to throw the car in reverse and he quickly proceeds back into the school.
The next day the Pennsylvania State Police...with the renta cop in the passenger seat...follow me for 2 miles...then they pull me over. The Trooper walked around my car TWICE until he found something to write up....and gave me a ticket with his renta cop buddy smiling on..I don't forget a name. I know where they live.
We'll see who get's the last my name on 'em.

Don't you know the PSP is the ONLY State Police that is chartered as a military force with 2 years "enlistments" and ignores gun owners rights and has a database of every single gun you've ever frekin bought?

They let me go once - very professional - out of Harrisburg PA - caught
up with me on the turnpike.
It was an interesting story and they didn't have to ... but it was 4AM and

Yes, this is true, but the PSP are professionals. I live in the sticks of PA, and the PSP are the only law enforcement available.
I had a situation like zip's on the PA Turnpike too. It involved booze, a lonely long distance girlfriend, and a phone call. Should have been arrested, at least ticketed. The Trooper was a decent sort, and took pity on my sorry ass and my sob story. So I can't say anything bad about the PSP0 -
I would find it hard to believe that they are anymore/less respectful than any other State Police Troops. [:)] 0 -

I can say that pa is pretty decent in the trucking department you will just about always get 6-7 over and they are pretty decent guys..as far as other posts on this thread there are always gonna be bad eggs but this is true for all for every bad trooper there is a bad trucker and a bad 4 weeler etc etc 0 -
The Pa. State Police have not had "enlistments" for close to 40 years.
I remember them in 1967 but did not see any for the next 25 years.0 -

Only had dealings with them one a vacation, and they were respectful and professional. I don't have any complaints on how I was treated. 0 -

Uh, Pittsburgh is not rural. I grew up well outside of it where PSP is the only police. As for your other "points" PSP has not had those enlistments for decades.
And about the database:
As far as the record of gun purchases goes you are half right. State law mandates that all record of sales be discarded after a few days but a cop could probably run my name and come up with every HANDGUN I ever bought in PA. Which would be one, since I moved long ago. Long guns are not tracked. PSP got sued several years ago about it and the courts decided that it was OK. I disagree with the courts, by the way. I was a part time (worked 39 hours a week with no benefits) police officer in PA for one year before I got hired full time in MD. I had tested for PSP, got a 97% on written test but my vision kept me out. You really should know what you are talking about before you post a bunch of garbage.0 -
Took I-80 through PA once a week with a load of "swingin".Had only one occasion of negitive, runnin down towards Philly from Shamokin.The DOT cop shook me down pretty hard and seemed less than pleased he could'nt find a problem.Even ran my trips and times through the new at the time computerized map gizmo(1996)Got on a regular waving basis with one east of Kylertown,can't remember the mile marker but it was a pretty good downhill and 75 came before you knew it.Never stopped me,I think he got enough enjoyment out of my expression when he "shot" me point blank with the radar.PSP's OK with me.Ohio's SP on the other hand just flat sucks[xx(] 0 -
When I was 13 I had a little 100cc motorcycle I'd ride thru the woods to get to grandma's house....one day I was stupid and went up the road that gets virtually NO traffic instead of the logging trail....
A PSP Trooper was coming the other way and waved for me to pull over.....yeah right....I dropped a gear and gave 'r all she had ....looked back and the Troopers front bumper was an inch from my back tire.....gentleman was going to kill me.
I swerved off the road into a field with half a foot of snow on it, throwing a roost of snow across his windshield....I'm hitting little jumps and feeling like "yeah that'll show 'em".....but when I glance back his Caprice is still frekin on me. Finally he got stuck in the field and I headed for the woods.
They called in back up and there were THREE PSP Troopers with road blocks on the roads, asking people if they knew who the kid on the bike was. They went door to door to every house where I live asking them the same question.
Somehow not ONE soul told them who I was. Chet I was a stupid little kid on a POS little bike and they were trying to kill me. If I had slid in the snow the PSP would have ran me over with their patrol car.
That's not my only experience with the PSP....I have more humourous stories.0 -
with a family buisiness in rural Pa. "stateys" used to hang out there dureing slow periods. all were pretty good guys. have met a few of the newer young ones who seem to be pretty full of themselves tho[V]

Obiwan-You were pretty lucky in your flee and elude. In Michigan, they circle around till DNR gets there with an ORV or snowmobile or sometimes, even a helicopter. With snow, if they didn't catch you they could still track you. Maybe you should have just pulled over, got your butt chewing and got sent home. Do that in Michigan now and if you are caught you can give up your guns because you would be a FELON.

i too live in the great state of pA. i live in bucks county were there is municiple po po but for the most part i have had good experieces with the pa staies . . .exept for one time
while picking my then girlfriend (now fiance) up from college in east stroudsburg for christmass) i pulled out of the schools exit onto I-80, excelerated to pass a truck and before i knew what was happening the SOB was behind me. as far as i knew i hadn't even broken the speed limit.
asked him whatthe prob was and he flipped out, yelled at me and made my GF cry. apparentyly that portion of the road is 55 no 65. told me he was behnd me since i got onto !-80, which is BS because i merged infront of a truck . . .not a car. guy let me off with a verbal warning but his conduct was way out of line.
i guess it is right that there are a few bad apples0 -
A long stretch of I-80 from the river almost to Bartonsville (33) is 50 mph and heavily enforced. 0 -

Always very professional and fair. have noticed with the younger ones that they seem to be Rambo hungry to write tickets for the slightest of nominal infractions.
Years ago while driving truck I was broke down on the PA Turnpike for several hours. A PA State Trooper brought some coffee out for me.
Now that is what I call real class.0 -

I have a cousin who is a Trooper in Pa., he's a good guy. But . . . .
When I was about 20, I was driving through Clearfield Pa.(I'm from Baltimore, and had Md. plates), from my Uncle's hunting camp, had 3 other people in the car with me, doing 55, there's a car right in front of me, and one right behind me.
Trooper in an unmarked car pulls me over and says he has me on radar doing 66 in a 55. I ask if he can show me the reading, he says no. I ask "how could I be doing 66, and not plow right through the car in front of me?". He didn't answer that, and gave me ticket for $104, told me to tell my story to the
judge.
I never went back to fight the ticket, figured a 4 hour trip wasn't worth it, so, I guess my opinion is of them is not too good, but like I said, my cousin's a Pa. Trooper, and he's a good guy.[B)]0 -

I don't live in PA anymore. I can make fun of them and even say I'll pee on the PSP troopers grave stone that screwed me over when he passes away.
