Daylight saving time
Don't forget, Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 AM 4 November 2012. Set your clocks and watches back one hour.
Some of the local radio and TV stations are advocating violating the law by setting clocks back whenever you go to bed, but I'd like to remind everybody the law clearly says 2:00 AM. I don't expect to find out about any violators. As you all know, several of our members are in law enforcement.
I used to be against Daylight Saving Time, but ever since the old farmer said that extra hour of sunlight has done wonders for his crops, I've mellowed a bit on that.

Indiana returned to this stupid policy this year - not because anyone in the State thought it was a good idea in and of itself but because the majority of people elsewhere were too dense to figure out what Eastern Standard all year round meant.
The governor claims that businesses refused to locate here because it was too complicated to figure out the clocks! Well I say anybody that is that dumb we don't need 'em here anyway.

I like it, it gives me an extra hour of light in the evening for working outdoors, seems to me it would be as easy to permanantly change time. 0 -

...No, there is still just 24 hours in the day. The length of the days change incrementaly, as does the light and dark of the same 24 hour period; as the season's change...don't cha know??...[:D]

Reguardless of what you do to your clock,the days get shorter in the fall, and longer in the spring...So....WHAT'S THE POINT??[:(!]

it shifts more day light hrs to when we are working. why have it day light at four in the morning and dark while still working ..as business hrs of this country are not geared for day light that early in the morning.ectect..set clock fwd an hr have day light at 5am and have an the hr of day light in evening..... it's not really that hard to figure out unless people really think it slow down the rotation of the earth by an hr a day[:o)]0 -

up here in the north country i guess our day length changes by more hrs than down south......i like it in the summer and still have some twilight left at 11:00pm......winter it sucks to be almost completely dark by 5:00pm on overcast day 0 -

I figured out what daylight savings time is saving.Animals,cause it's dark when I get off work now. I'd like to turn clocks ahead in fall. 0 -

The solstice and equinox that happens as the seasons change affect the amount of daylight we have in a 24-hour period because of the rotation of the Earth on its axis, but I consider changing the clocks ridiculous. 0 -

Really????????? In about 2 weeks I will be going to work in the dark and leaving work in the dark which will last for probably the next 3 months. What bothers me is that I have NO daylight hours to do anything at home for those three months.
I don't think this is as big an issue as it used to be. The intend was as you said,is to provide more lighted work hours for that 8-5 time slot thus reducing energy usage during that peak period. We are no longer an 8-5 society. Now days 2-3 hours of commuting is added onto the workday for a large segment, meaning people are up earlier and often stay up later essentially using up any energy that might have been previously saved. For every person who benefits from DST you have one that doesn't. I'ts pretty much a wash as far as energy conservation though the "experts" are encouraged to claim otherwise.0 -
All the old arguments are outdated (farmers--businesses--doctors to play golf--use less electricity Etc....) I just wish Indiana would be on the same time. Some Counties are never on the same time as Floyd County. [:(] 0 -

dakotashooter, yes you are right about winter day lengths way to short I also dont like it but up here in the north country....but i kinda nice to catch up on a little rest from the 15+ hrs a day from early spring till about now for me.....though row crop harvest is behind here now...got asked to help guy harvest 900 acres of sunflowers and he hasn't started them...cut 500 acres already....would still going tonight but run into wet ones at the field i am at now.....
Dive bomb your right, my equipment has enough lights on it to make it very easy to work well into the night[:D]

Farmers work from "can see" to "caint see"! Clocks on a working farm have no meaning.

If something like setting a clock forward or back 1 hour is too much for you to comprehend I feel sorry for you ...
... how do you deal with really complex issues?
In the winter months, if it weren't for daylight savings time it would still be dark at 7am ... kids would be waiting for the bus in the dark.
In the summer months, try getting a kid to go to bed at 10pm when its still light out ...0 -
