Trucker, Wife Win $105 Million Powerball Jackpot
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An Oklahoma trucker and his wife could now use an armored truck. Don and Joyce Harvey are the winners of a $105.8 million Powerball jackpot.
The win is timely. Harvey says his long-haul truck, which had almost two million miles on it, has a blown engine. It died this week.
The Harveys say they plan to pay off bills, help family members and think about buying a new home with their winnings. They chose to receive a $33 million lump sump after taxes.
Joyce Harvey said she was in "absolute disbelief and shock" when she checked the numbers on her computer Thursday night and found she had the winner.
A truck driver all his adult life, Don Harvey, who is 64, says he doesn't plan to stop working. He's in the market for another big rig, but not a new one. He says they cost too much and depreciate too quickly.

How come it from $105 million down to $33.Thats a lot of taxes. 0 -
Because the $105 million is the anuity value (get so much a year for 30 years.) If you take the lump sum you get the amount it would cost to buy a $105 million anuity. At 64 he's wise to take the lump sum, he won't live long enough to collect the 30 year plan. 0 -
Always take the lump sum. Invest it and you will have the same annual income plus still have the lump sum. One basicaly gets 50% the annual interest on the amount you win. 50% of the annual interest on the amount won equals the same as 100% interest on half the money. Plus, one still has the lump. And remember no winner is going to let the winnings change their life. That means they will not spend any of the winnings. I know it will not change mine. Yeah! sure you betcha.
The above works for a 20 yr payoff. But the end result for a 30 yr payoff is the same. Take the lump.0 -
You can bet I wouldn't want my name printed in the papers if I won that much money! 0
