I'm sick of this "cruel and unusual bull"

"Berry was sentenced to death for the 1987 murder of Mary Bounds. She was beaten to death after leaving choir practice at her church and her body was found in the woods just off a road near Houston, Mississippi."

HOLY CRAP! He KILLED a person! HE BEAT HER TO DEATH, and now, "Berry's lawyers had asked the Supreme Court to stop the execution until the high court rules on whether the commonly used lethal injection method constitutes cruel and unusual punishment."

FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD... JUST BEAT HIM TO DEATH TOO! MAN THIS STUFF MAKES ME SICK! [V]

    The punishment should not be unusual to the crime. In this case the man deserves to die, that punishment is not unusual to the crime if he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. I wouldn't really care how he died would he rather be shot?, I'm sure many here would donate the bullet.

    It is not cruel to die by lethal injection. The person goes to sleep, and then their heart stops. It is painless.
    This suit is just some legal bs thrown up by the anti death penalty crowd.

    I've had two by-pass operatons. They put me to sleep and I didn't feel a thing before they layed me open like a catfish. Why can't they put these slime wads to sleep and then slip them the needle if they don't want them to "feel pain"? This makes me sick!! [:(!][:(!]

    I was put under for a quadruple wisdom tooth removal. My last words, as all went fuzzy and dark, were, "So this is what lethal injection feels like." My oral surgeon had some choice words in reply when I regained consciousness.

    Seriously, they could have done anything, including kill me, while I was out. I HAD FOUR MOLARS RIPPED OUT OF MY HEAD AND NEVER KNEW IT! I am opposed on principle to the death penalty, but I recognize and accept that it's going to be imposed and I fail to see the "cruel and unusual" aspect of just going nite-nite....

    it's funny how the same people claim "the punishment should fit the crime", until the crime is as serious as murder

    i like the old "death of a thousand cuts" method for murderers, and baby rapers

    A few thoughts:

    The most "humane" killing is by being over-medicated. It is done to little poopsie at the vet.

    If the Supremes rule that the injection method is cruel and inhumane, (unusual) then all other death methods, being less humane, will have to be banned also.

    It's a step in the removement of death as part of the penal code nationwide.

    I'd like the Supreme Court justices, who have this issue on their table as I am typing this, refuse to hear it. It then reverts back to individual states to make a determination, where it should be.

    I think the idea of a painless death for murderers isn't about them deserving that much mercy, but to raise our society above that of barbarians. Before anyone takes offense to how that might sound -- there is a lot to be said for barbarism. Some persons in this world are impressed by nothing else, and we're long overdue to be making a hell of an impression on a few (million) of them. [}:)]

    The "cruel and unusual" part in the Constitution came from the British habit of execution known as " hanged,drawn and quartered". It basically was a quick hanging, then dropping the victim and immediately removing the genitalia, disemboweling and burning the entrails, all while the victim was still alive, then beheading and dividing the body into four parts. This was usually the penalty for treason. This is why it was included in the Constitution. I do not believe that this country has ever executed anyone as cruel and unusual as that, although I am sure there are some we wish would get that treatment. Another reason that people must go back and research the reasons our founders used certain words and what those words meant at the time, instead of trying to make them fit what they want today.

    that's a big crowd pleaser, i say we bring it back, and do it more often that away it would no longer be "unusual"

    I'm all for public execution. Who cares if the dirt bag suffers, he/she (I'm an equal opportunity executioner[}:)]) certainly didn't mind that the poor soul the knocked off suffered. I think however you kill someone is the same way you should be executed. I'm sure the families that have suffered such a horrible loss wouldn't mind doing it. If they do then I'm sure it wouldn't be to hard to find someone to do it, especially on this forum. I might be free as well. I really like the ancient eye for an eye laws. They worked better than any others[}:)]

    It's another part of the whole PC stuff that's destroying our society and our entire planet.

    Capital punishment used to be fine, now we don't want to stick anybody with a needle because we're afraid it might hurt, so we'd rather feed and care for them for 30 years. After all it's more humane than giving them a shot. But somebody really needs to do something about the overcrowding in our prisons.

    War used to be so devastating and horrible it was somthing you really tried to avoid, but since there are now rules against blowing up certain "valuable stuff" (churches, historical buildings, hospitals, etc, etc, etc) where's the incentive to stop a war? We'd rather complain about the cost of war, and how long they take.

    We used to teach our children right and wrong, but now we need to expose them to all kinds of indecent and immoral things in school "so they can make up their own minds." We don't want to say anything that might hurt their self esteem, so we never tell them "no." Again, somebody needs to do something about those overcrowded prisons, plus there seems to be a lot more wierdos out there lately.

    And the saddest part is the folks pushing these kinds of agendas think they're doing them because it's the "right" thing to do. Morons. Our society, if left to itself, is just like everything else in nature - leave it alone and it will deteriorate.

    It just never ceases to amaze me how these same people can be so hypocritical as to oppose the death penalty, for someone whom has been judged by a "JURY" of their Peers; an individual deemed to be a menace to civilized society; yet support Abortion on demand.
