Backhoe and Loader Pics

Thursday morning I finished midnights. Stayed awake and dug down to the tile around the foundation and found the tile. We couldn't find a trencher to rent so we dug the trench with the backhoe. Trying to keep grade with a backhoe sucks! Anyway, we were lucky and found a tile about 75 feet into the field and hooked on to it. Trench was about 150 feet and I was finished by 7:00 that night. Unfortunately, the backfill is a mess and we had to take the corner post out of the chain link fence.
The tile I hooked on to was a branch. It was half full of sand. Usually when a tile is silted in, it is compacted hard, but strangely, this has loose sand. I hope I don't regret digging further and going to the next tile, but My house sits hirer than the remainder of the tile branch, so my line will drain first. Yes, I used to be a ditch digger.
327 in that truck. Seems a shame to waste a perfectly good 327 in a truck with a permanent mount backhoe. Continental flathead 6 cylinder on the backhoe. Not the easier to maneuver, but it digs a big hole.
4840 front axle on the 4020. It's one ugly tractor, but its done a lot of work.0 -
Looks like you got the right equipment. What are you trying to do, put in new drain tiles on the property or fix a drain field on a septic tank system? 0 -
I'm hoping by hooking on to the tile going around the foundation, I will be able to drain the spring water better and the sump pump will run less. While the house is on the top of the hill, There is pure yellow sand below the floor. 90 feet down is silica sand (the stuffthey make glass out of.)
It rained about 12 days ago and the sump pump ran for a week. If I lose power, I'm screwed. The only connection between the tile around the foundation and the tile under the floor is the sump hole. So, if it works right water will flow through the sump hole and into the the outside tile, then down the hill, but not in the basement.
I love that transit in the top pic. It's a good one. I see junk sell at auctions for $250. With the one I can get a target rod half way across the field. Probably only 30mm, but it's accurate and smooth.0 -

The good thing about a sand base is that water will drain out quickly,provided that the sand follows the grade of the hill.
Sump pumps do fail and that always seems to happen when you are not home to deal with it quickly.
I have a friend that lives in a beautiful home on the side of an steep hill. They have to pump their sewage up the hill from their home and into the main sewer line. Twice their sump pump has failed and sewage has backed up to fill their lower level family room. Talk about a mess, they have to move out of the house and replace everything in the lower level. Nasty mess.
Makes you wonder why folks don't install two sump pumps to have a back up system available once the primary quits. High cost I suppose.0 -

Any one running a Trojan 4000E front end loader? I worked in the engineering test lab during their manufacturing days. Every once in a while I get thinking how many are still running, if any at all. 0
