Any of you guys watching the segment about the Plumpy Nut nutrional food for starving children around the world? They are showing and talking about a woman in Africa who has watched FOUR of her children starve to death. They are showing her feeding Plumpy Nut to her twin six-month olds! Educate these people about birth control![:(!]

I know I will get jumped on about this, but I have given it some thought it the past.
I think that if we are going to give aid to these starving areas. We should make the people sterile before we help them. They can decide if they want the help with this condition or no help at all.
If we help them, they will keep having kids, making us help even more.0 -

Or; if allowed to evole unhindered, eventually the land will be clear of people that can't support a way of life. A successful society is one that supports the next generation of humans. Africa has been a dismal failure in that for the past century.0 -

One of these women had had four children starve to death. Yet she still had more children, and they were feeding her fifth dying baby plumpynut.

I watched it. You guys have pretty much summed it up. Yes, we will take some heat from some of our more liberal brothers here.
What we have here is do gooders trying to sc**w with mother nature. Yes, tragic as it is, old mom can take care of her own. Irresponsible breeding, whether it's lions or humans, has it's consequences. The same problem is here in the U.S. We call it social programs. So many don't want to be responsibe for their own actions. The goverment will bail their sorry a** out. We all know that the government doesn't have any money of it's own. It's our tax money. Most from the good old middle class. There will come a time where the working folks just can't afford it. Then things could get ugly.
It's not just about the above but 60 min also had a segment about our terrible forest fires. Notice that for 100 years the forest dept. tried to put out every fire and now there is so much dead & dry kindling it results in a out of control fire. Old mom has a better idea.

Unfortunately, when you're desperately poor like that, having tons of kids is basically a crude retirement plan. When you're too old to gather your own food, those dozens of children you had will all be able to support you somehow.
Yes it's irresponsible, and immensely cruel to the children, but they really have no other option.0 -

It's complicated, but, basicly, you guys are right. I remember annoying folks over 40 years ago when I asked if we included a gross of condoms in every CARE package we sent to Africa & Asia.
Not only do our handouts & vaccines set up another generation for starvation & bloody wars, but we also assure that millions of acres of additional green land will be turned into vast deserts by subsistence farming. If you believe in global warming, this is another big cause.
The reasons for our involvement lie at the heart of liberal thinking. They feel we HAVE to get involved, but not so involved that we take away their right of "choice".

The basic flaw with the plumpy nut program is that the number of humans has exceeded the carrying capacity of the land. If the starving 1 and 3 year olds are saved by Western countries giving plumpy nut, who will feed the nice, healthy, and hungry 4 and 6 and 10 year olds that will result? I don't want my tax dollars to feed them. And, should these kids live to be 14 years old, they will be producing some more, starving babies.
I saw the starving babies on 60 minutes. My heart goes out to them. But they are the symptom of a massive problem that will not be cured by rich Western countries shipping in plumpy nut.
The plumpy nut program is just like Bush's plan to give $15 billion for AIDS in Africa. It will be counterproductive.
Let us say there is a 30 year old guy dying of AIDS in Africa. He is given the American medicine, and in a few months he is off of the death bed, and back on his feet. What is he going to do?
He is going to go right back out and have more unprotected sex, the same thing he was doing before he got sick. And, he will transmit HIV to some unsuspecting teenaged girl, who in turn, will soon need some of that free American medicine.0 -
...Plumpy Nuts huh? How about sterilization for theses chumps. Generations of aid has just perpetuated the problem. One time deal then wise up or die...[;)]
