Russians are very proud people. Most of them have taken a real blow with the fall of the Empire. They are lost, and most of them look for a symbol of past glory and majesty, hopefully to lead the country into next age of Glory, Harmony and Might. Age of Aquarius, as they reffere to it (Era Vodoleya).
So, to them, anything that is known to perform well and made by Russia is a symbol: AK rifles, T-34 tank. Yak-3, La-7 fighters,
REAL T-72 tank (not the monkey models they sold to "monkey" (aka arabs)), etc etc etc.
They put on the pedestal old Heroes: Alexander Nevskiy, Generalissimo Suvorov, General Kutuzov, Admiral Ushakov, etc....
Seeking past symbols to find themselves a path from the crap that the "Der'mokracy" (poopocracy, as the word Der'mo means "Crap", so many of them call "Democracy" "Der'mokracy".0 -
I'm sure not all of them feel that way. but yes, I have heard of that also. however logical or not their sentiments may be.
the east germans experience the same phenomenon with the collapse of their former identity. they call it oestimism, being in what was oest deutschland. I suppose that's the basis of romanticism wherever you're from. it's understandable.0 -
Interestingly, there is increasing number of parties which are not only openly Nationalist, not only openly Communist, not only openly Stalinist, but all of the above combined. For example National Bolshevik Party.
These parties are feared so much by the current ruling party, that they are taking every step to shut them down.
This is a VERY similar situation that was in Germany in 1930. I am from there, in fact, I went back there in 2003-2005. You would be surprised just how much they hate americans, blaming them for EVERY VOE, regardless of the true root of the problem. A word "amerikos" (short for amerikanets), or even worse "pindos" (american Fags) are insults.
This shows even in airsoft/strikeball competition. People are more then willing to play for British, German, Japanese, Chinese, French, Austrian, Italian teams. But not for US team. More people are willing to play as Waffen SS and Wermaht, then as americans.
I will not even mention that most of the people I talked to a aching for Stalin. "When there was Law and Order and when were were strong and respected." Such sentiments are more rare in Moscow and Petersburg, where standards of living are much higher then everywhere else. However, 80km away from MKAD and you get people who vary from "We need Stalin", to "We need a King", however, they are all united in their longing for "mighty empire" and their anger that "those damned americans lied to us that if we become democratic country, our standards of living will be improved. Now look at us, we are all destitude and they now rule the world."0 -

Russian Man Killed by Owl He Tried to Steal

A Russian man has died after being attacked by an owl he tried to steal from Moscow zoo, the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily reported.
The incident took place on Tuesday night. Zoo workers found the body of the 32-year old man near the wild birds' cage. An owl was missing from the nearest compertment.
Most likely, the man got into the zoo at night intending to steal a bird. He climbed over the fense and broke the cage where an owl lived. "The place was covered with feathers, at first we thought that the owl flew away," zoo workers told reporters. However, soon the bird was discovered hiding in the bushes. The owl was bruised and frightened, but alive.
Prosecutors, who started investigation into the man's death, said it was obvious that the bird fought the thief fiercely. The cage and the zoo fence were covered in blood drops. Investigators say that the man tried to climb the fence wit the bird in his hands but fell and collapsed after his head hit a cage. The man died of hypothermia after lying several hours unconscious on the cold ground.0 -

english, german, russian, they all have their faults. if you ask me,
the english have made the most contribution towards getting most of the entire world as developed, up through the last century, through their business practices, scientific efforts, political finesse, and incessant colonialism; but in the end, it was all about greed and the culture of greed remains. it's been said that the english are great people, but put two of them together and they're b***rds. which I find to be true.
the germans haven't contributed much of anything (which is nothing to blame them for), but they do have nice stuff. beer, food, assorted toys. as a people, I hate germans. of all the different people I've met, I've found them to be the only ones from anywhere on the planet that are, by and large, a-holes. when I run across a german that I like, I really like them, but that's rare. if you take 10 germans and put them in a room, I'll find
1 that I like,
2 that seem ok but turn out unlikeable after a while,
4 that I don't like from the start,
3 that I can't stand,
and 1 that's the biggest peice of crap I ever met.
russians I don't have a problem with. there seems to be a wide range of talent. yes some are worthless, but you get that with any group of people. I think the smart russians are the best group of smart people to choose smart people from. when they're good, they're good. godless? so what, that's a good thing. finally, about the russians, I like their values (and those of the polish, and prussians) better than anybody else's. that counts the most as far as I'm concerned. quality of living aside, I'd probably be happiest living among those types of people. which makes sense, because I am predominantly of polish descent.
(a lot of people tell me I look definitely russian, but they're wrong; I look slavic. the polish are the most purely slavic people left on the planet. russians are an admixture of slavs and mongols. "scratch the skin of any russian and you'll find a mongol underneath".)
americans have contributed to the development of the rest of the world for the same purposes as the english did- self profit, greed. their business practices and product development are first rate. aside from the fact that you can live any way you want in the USA, that's all they have going for them. they have been regarded by pretty much everybody else in the world to be stupid, uncultured, corrupt, violent and greedy, which I find to be true. they didn't start out that way. I blame it on corporate economics (the culture of which has a tremendous infusion of christian values), that's what made americans into what they are and how they are, over the last 50 years it seems.
christianity has befouled all of european culture. Nietzsche made note of the noble culture of the islamic moors and their arabic progenitors, and pined for what could have been had it not been for the scourge of christian values crippling the european aristocracy; russians weren't pestered with religious self-flagellation or forced moral servitude. so, score one for the russians.0 -

Stalin was not Russian, Jugashvilli (sp?) is a Georgian name.
(Stalin means "man of steel", his family name was what I mentioned earlier
