After 5 years, I can't believe these devils are still strong enough to launch frontal attacks. Great job by our boys repelling the attack, bravo!

GHAZNI, Afghanistan (AP) -- A group of 75 Taliban militants tried to overrun a U.S.-led coalition base in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, a rare frontal attack that left more than 20 militants dead, the coalition said in a statement.

Taliban fighters in February at an undisclosed location in Afghanistan.

The insurgents attacked Firebase Anaconda from three sides, using gunfire, grenades and 107 mm rockets, the coalition said. A joint Afghan-U.S. force repelled the attack with mortars, machine guns and air support.

You're right. If the Coalition had been using Army GROUND BASED artillery, they would've all been wasted.

If I can recall correctly many people were saying that exact same thing during Tet.

If I can recall correctly many people were saying that exact same thing during Tet.The reality is that they've demonstrated just how weak they really are. The inability to muster more people than this for what they obviously intended to be a significant operation is telling. There's a huge difference between launching a credible frontal assault and a pathetic attempt at one by only 75 guys.

Even mentioning the Tet offensive when discussing what amounts to a suicide run by a small group against a single outpost is downright funny.

I for one would like to see them try it again and again. LOL. Love that 12th century military tactical flair. Can't wait to see their elite petard and pike platoons.

say what you want, but those nutballs did a frontal assault (highest casualty rate of any type, right?) with 75 guys split on 3 sides, why did the defenders even need air support, and why did they only get 20 of them?

because there must not have been very many ppl at the base, and they only got 20 of them because the attackers weren't dumb enough to stick around when the air strikes started.

they're not strong in numbers, but they're not stupid, and they're obviously strong on morale. they shouldn't be underestimated.

Maybe they were just testing their defense. Recon in force kinda thing. What the hell do I know, I was Air Force.

Well, the Zulu king measured the British defense at Roarks Drift by throwing a bunch of his warriors into the grinder.

I dont understand why they showed pictures of captured Taliban for the article. They should have all been dead.

Tet was in 1968, about seven years before the end of the war, and the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong got their asses handed to them. However, Walter Cronkite and the American press were successful in turning it around, making it a defeat for the American forces and eventually made it a turning point.

Wasnt this a lightly armed outpost with about a few dozen men that they attacked? And we suffered no casulties? I'd put that one in the win column.

Perhaps it is a big joke to you, but no one back here is the States felt that sapper attack on the U.S. embassy in Saigon, a suicide mission by a small group of insurgents, was very funny at all. While nothing much was accomplished in the attack from a military standpoint, as James pointed out, that was a turning point in the war in Vietnam since the repercussions back home were trmendous. Keep right on laughing it up.

...Shame they don't tackle us in this manner more often, if they did we could kill a hell of a lot more of them; rather than blowing them up (maybe) in their caves. Mr clacker spoke to Mr Clay and Mr Taliban heard the word. Bobski's right...[;)]
