New Dollar Coin...In Change Today
I received a few of the New Dollar coins in change today and thought they deleted the inscription 'In God We Trust'.
The coin looked like something was missing and me and another person was looking at it and saw that they inscribed something on the edge. The coin is slightly bigger then a quarter and the way they inscribed the E Pluribus Unum and In God We Trust on the edge you will need a magnifying glass to even see it and after a little useage it will probably dissapear on its own.

Why don't they make the dollar coins the size of the old Silver Dollars? Slightly larger than a quarter is too damn small for a dollar coin. 0 -

The coin belongs to the government, They can put whatever inscription they choose.

The U.S. Mint has not yet figured out WHY people don't want to carry the dollar coins - new or old - period. Same with the ill-fated $2 bill. They just don't get it! People do NOT want three pounds of coins in their handbag or in their Armani or blue jeans pants pocket and the $2 bill accomplishes absolutely nothing over the $5 bill.
What a colossal waste of money minting these nostalgic vestigals of days long gone by.0 -
I read a story today (can't find it now)that there were some coins that got out that didn't have the marking on the out side of them..... 0 -
I gave a quarter and a susan b anthony to the doughnut lady the other day for a 1.25 apple friter and being how busy the line she just gave me a funny look in the eye and didn't say anything. About 5 minutes later a guy came up to me who was behind me in the line and said the doughnut lady was mumbling something about that I gave here .50 for a 1.25 apple friter.

If they were the size of the old silver dollars, no one would carry and use them. Even at this size few people care for them at all.

I took a look at the fleabay auctions for these. People seem to be paying quite a bit for rolls of these. Do they not understand that banks are selling them for face value?
After finding out about these error coins I'm very tempted to open the two rolls that I have, but of course that would ruin their collectibility as a roll.0 -
The ones "going for $50 apiece" are the 50,000 or so that accidentally made it out of the mint WITHOUT the "In God We Trust" on the edge. The first ones actually claimed $300 on ebay, but when it was revealed how many were botched, the price has dropped to around $50 each. Rolls are going to be hard to know about if they're in opaque wrappers. The regular issue, without mint goofs, are going for just over $0.99.
On the subject of size/look of the coins, when I traveled to Israel a few years back, I got a roll of the then new Sack-aja-weeah (sp!) coins for tips, etc. When I tried to use them to purchase a cup of coffee in the Newark airport, the counter lady rejected them as "foreign"--even when I pointed out the "United States of America" imprint, she still refused them. I had always thought New Jersey was part of the U.S. Anyway, I came home with most of them as they were shunned abroad as well. Folks overseas seem to want only FOLDING U.S. currency...and lots of it.0 -

What I can't understand is that if the US insists on making a $1 coin similar in size to the quarter why they don't it a bi metal coin like Canada or Mexico do.That is actually more atractive and highly distiguisible. 0 -
If the Mint ever fails to put 'In God We Trust'on currency then it should instead put "In Politicians We Don't Trust". That would make a dollar coin acceptable! 0 -
I saw in the newspaper today that some of the new dollars were minted without the "In God We Trust" motto stamped on the edge of the coin. Depending on how many were made, these could be worth a lot to collectors. 0 -
I was in a coin shop last week and they were selling rolls for 37.00 each. People were buying them like crazy. I ran to the bank the next day and got a P and D roll for face value.
The ones selling on EBARF for 50.00 + are error coins where the
inscription on the side is missing. The other interesting ones I have seen are the blank planchet ones where they failed to go though the press or the dies were set wrong.
Early error coins sold for several hundred dollars on EBARF until people figured out there were many errors out there.0 -

The reason people are buying the rolls is because they are uncirculated and will only go up in value if you keep them unopened in the roll.
Search Ebay for "2007 dollar uncirculated" that's where you will find the rolls selling for $60+... I know a guy who's been hitting all branchs of his bank for the uncirculated rolls and on each visit they only have one or two if he's lucky.0 -
PS: look how much the Sacagawea rolls are "uncirculated"... they have doubled in value! in only a couple years, how many investmants can say that? 0 -

William I went to buy a new tripod for my dig camera and cam...at Radio Shmuck...and gave the guy 20 of the $1 coins...and the guy had to have a disscussion w/his mangager; if they were "real" money, they debated it over for about 3-4 minutes!... [:D] 0
