How do you store pistols in your safe
I would like to know how somebody else stores their pistols in their gun safe, pics if you have them. Does anybody have any links to a good door organizer for handguns and pistols that hold more than 6 ?

I keep mine in plastic pistol cases (1 or 2 per case) and just stack them on the shelves in my gun cabnet (I have a locking cabnet that will hold about 36 rifles and has 2 shelves up top and not a safe).
Before long I may reinforce my walk in closet to store more guns as my cabnet is over flowing and I have to keep a few outside of the cabnet leaned up against the walls next to my bed.0 -
Hi kevin, I too keep mine in plastic cases on the shelves in my safes but I would like to make some more room in the safes and try and find a way of hanging them on the doors. 0 -
I don't like when the foam is in contact with my gun for 24/365. The pistol racks are nice if your safe is climate controlled. I like to have air circulating around them. 0 -

I got some plans stored on the computer someplace for makeing some nice wood (with cloth covering) pistol racks.
I'll scan my computer here in a bit to see if I can find them as I do not remember the file name I stored them under.0 -

I should have added that I wrap the pistols in a silicon gun cloth before I store them in the plastic cases to keep the foam off the gun.[;)][:D]0 -
I cannot find the plans now.[:(]
But they look like these. They would not be hard to figure out as far as makeing them.

How would you fasten them to the door of the safe or don't you? I want the shelf space and I'm trying to put them on the door. 0 -
I hang mine on the door ... the door panal is 3/8" plywood covered by nylon carpet I got at Autozone. I rolled left-over carpet strips (about 3" wide and 15"long) in to loops and attached them to the door with a small screw ... the screw pulls down deep enough into the carpet it doesn't scratch the finish.

Kimberkid, that's perfect, just what I was looking for. Can you tell me a little more on how you did it and is it easy to get the guns out and in? e-mail maybe with more pic's 0 -
I have convertible Stack-On safes. Instead of using the extra space for rifles, have added the shelves and set one at a level so that the pistols can rest in the rifle barrel mount. Left enough space above to be able to get any pistol out without moving the others.

I really like Kimberkid's setup and may take some measurements to see if there is enough clearance in my safes to clear the center partition if there are pistols on the door.0 -
I don't really know what more there is to tell ...
? 1. I got a roll of carpet from Autozone
? 2. I got a piece of 3/8 plywood covered it with the carpet
and mounted it to the door. My safe door had a piece of
sheet metal covering the locking mechanism ... I removed
it and used it as a template and got longer mounting
screws to replace the short ones used for the sheet metal.
? 3. I rolled left-over carpet strips (about 3" wide and 15"long in to loops and attached them to the door with a small screw.
You can mount your loops in what ever patern or way works for you ... it's a blank workspace, where ever you want to hang it, just put a screw and loop there. As you can see, the pistols slip into the loops kinda like a holster ... and they lift right out.
I don't know what other pictures you might want ... without taking it apart I don't know what else to take a picture of. I'm headed out to a gunshow and hopefully the range after that ... then an evening of cleaning [:D]
Hope this helps!0 -
I dont have a picture but mine is similar to Kimbers except I used old holsters, picked them up at pawn shops and garage sells and just screwed them to the inside of the door, alot of the pawn shops around here have buckets of old holsters you can dig through and pick out what you want for $5/7 each,,its not as pretty as his because all the holsters do not match but it works great,,I have 16 hanging on the door nice and safe as a bug in a rug and easy to get in and out 0 -
I store my hand guns in cases inside the safe, this helps keep them organized in a mannor that works for me. My Rifle/shotguns are lined up like other have shown. 0 -
Cabellas sells a product that stores pistols on the safe door. 0 -
Interesting that this comes up now. My two sons - 22 and 32 are
very good about keeping guns cleaned and oiled - BUT - they put
them away(?) in a pretty haphazard way! I have socks for the rifles/
shotguns and rugs for the handguns. I also attach a string tag on
the outside of each sock and rug. I adhere to my rules about keeping
everything neat in the safes. Two of the safes are not in the house -
this one is. This one holds the most often used guns. This is what
greets me just about each time I open it.
... I suppose things could be worse - but it just bugs me!
FLAME AWAY - I'd like to show them some of the comments - the
bad ones!

...I wont post pics but...For hand guns I slather the hell out of them inside out with cosmo mixed 80 Breakfree/20 cosmo. The BF thins the cosmo down great! BreakFree Preservtive & Lube then wrap in wax paper and place in a shrink wrap bag (food type machine works good).
Of course the 'ol no fail golden rod...and just for a little over kill...a few bags of the descedent(sp/ck) bags just for MORE over kill...has never failed me yet. SUPER inside out clean lube before all this too.
...but I have been accussed/diagnosed with being obsessive compulsive too...[8D]...have no I dea why.............
