question for L.E.O.'s

we have all seen videos of police chases, and at the end the cop jumps out to arrest the perp. why do they leave the siren on? it seems it would make it more difficult to communicate. the perp can say he did not hear the cops direction over the siren.

    Because the cop is so focused on catching the bad guy that he forgets to turn it off.

    The siren box should have an interlock switch with the transmission selector, so that when the selector goes into "Park," the siren stops. This would be a good thing, and I can't imagine a situation when an officer would want his siren running when the car is parked.

    You won't need the siren to keep the adrenaline pumpin'. It is a total surreal experiance. Just for the heck of it. try shooting with the lights and siren going.

    Good idea, but it's been done. When I was working patrol, our light/siren boxes had an interlock with the driver's side door. When the door opened, the siren turned off but the lights stayed on.

    I always thought that was exclusive to "COPS" the tv show so that Sherrif John Bunnell could have more hype for the "powerful" 6 cylinder slug of a Camaro!

    That was the first thing I did was turn off the siren, cuz it gets
    really loud when you open the door.
