There's a place in the world
    For a gambler
    There's a burden that only
    He can bear
There's a place in the world
    For a gambler,

    And he sees
    Oh, yes he sees...
    And he sees
    Oh, yes he sees...

There's a song in the heart
    Of a woman
That only the truest of loves
    Can release.
There's a song in the heart
    Of a woman.

    Set it free
    Oh, set it free

There's a light in the depths
    Of your darkness
There's a calm at the eye
    Of every storm.
There's a light in the depths
    Of your darkness.

    Let it shine
    Oh, let it shine

R.I.P. Dan Fogelberg, you will be missed.

    End of October
The sleepy brown woods seem to
Nod down their heads to the Winter
Yellows and grays paint the sad skies today
And I wonder when you're coming home
    Woke up one morning
    The wind through the window
Reminded me winter was just 'round the bend
Somehow I just did not see it was coming
It took me by surprise again

And I hear you're in San Francisco
Living with your sister who's a mother to be
And her husband's way down in Georgia
And I'm still in old Tennessee...
Wishing you'd come home to me

Life here is easy I'm sure you recall
How it's so warm and breezy
In the summer and the fall
    But winter's upon me
And I've got no heat here
And I miss your fire so sweet
Dear I miss your fire so sweet

And I hear you're in San Francisco
Living with your sister who's a mother to be
And her husband's way down in Georgia
And I'm still in old Tennessee...
Wishing you'd come home to me

    End of October
The sleepy brown woods seem to
Nod down their heads to the winter
Yellows and gray paint the sad skies today
And I wonder when you're coming home
I wonder when you're coming home
I wonder when you're coming home

Very sad indeed. He grew up near where I did and I saw him perform in a couple of places before he really hit big. RIP Dan

One way or another, we are all behind you Dan.

He was unique and I even bought his CDs after the LPs (I am even older than he was!!!)

    RIP

    Same Old Lang Syne

Met my old lover in the grocery store
The snow was falling Christmas Eve
I stole behind her in the frozen foods
And I touched her on the sleeve

She didn't recognize the face at first
But then her eyes flew open wide
She went to hug me and she spilled her purse
And we laughed until we cried.

We took her groceries to the checkout stand
The food was totalled up and bagged
We stood there lost in our embarrassment
    As the conversation dragged.

We went to have ourselves a drink or two
But couldn't find an open bar
We bought a six-pack at the liquor store
And we drank it in her car.

We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness
    But neither one knew how.

She said she'd married her an architect
Who kept her warm and safe and dry
She would have liked to say she loved the man
But she didn't like to lie.

I said the years had been a friend to her
And that her eyes were still as blue
But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw
    Doubt or gratitude.

She said she saw me in the record stores
And that I must be doing well
I said the audience was heavenly
    But the traveling was hell.

We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness
    But neither one knew how.

We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to time
    Reliving in our eloquence
    Another 'auld lang syne'...

The beer was empty and our tongues were tired
And running out of things to say
She gave a kiss to me as I got out
And I watched her drive away.

Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain --

I had heard the "Same Old Lang Syne" one the radio a couple of weeks ago. Stirred the many memories and I looked him up on the web. Found his website and learned of his battle with cancer.

Then I looked up "The Leader of the Band" and listened. My dad is 90 (I call him Papa, too) and I've followed somewhat in his footsteps, trying to be a living legacy to the leader of the band. Papa is in the nursing home now--him memory fading by the day, it seems--and I know there's not many days left me to tell him that I love him. I'll always appreciate Dan Fogelberg for helping me to articulate sentiments for me. I'll miss him.

No. That was Michael Martin Murphy. Even if it wasn't Fogelberg, a GREAT song!

His duets with Emmylou Harris were awesome. "Innocent Age" is in my Top 10 all-time favorite albums. A gentle man and a beautiful mind too early passing. RIP, Dan.
