proof of mailing ?
This is the first time in my life I've ever had to send the feds any money on tax day.
Should I get delivery confirmation or something to show I really did mail my return?

...Well, I'm sure you have copies of all your paper work your sending. BUT, with all I unfortuantely know about the IRS, I WOULD get confirmatin also...if something happens, it is HARD to get straight with the IRS EVEN with ALL the proof you do have, the more to CYA with them folks the better...trust me...I know.
...I had a witholding payment I made once..almost $10,000, made it at the FED bank window where you make them, got my reciept...and later had my WH tax payment ck cashed (by IRS) cancelled ck). Seems my bookkepper got an IRS letter asking where my WH tax was for that week!?? WTH?
...BKKPR sent them copies of the ck THEY recieved and cashed, the reciept from the FED window at the bank...they said "fine"...please pay the amount (about $10,000) again until we find OUR mistake! No CHIT![:0][:D]..So, I did. It took 6 months for them to "find" their mistakes...seems THEY had credited my WH tax to another corporation!
...So, after me paying the 10 grand TWICE..they sent me $10,000 back along w/interest..seems they sent me a ck for around $11,000.
THEIR mistake, THEIR problem, but I had to pay the $$$ untill THEY could find THEIR screwup! So yes, CYA Henry!...[;)]
