The Northwest continues to take my breath away...
I've been paddling some Awesome and beautiful rivers...seeing tons of game...numerous bald eagles...a golden eagle that was bigger than me...moose with their calves...elk and their babies. I'm hiking snow covered peaks...last Sunday I was standing on top of 10' of snow...in June. I'm paddling water and watching trout spawn upstream...many of them leaping/swiming up waterfalls that seem impossible to get up.
I stand in AWE of God's creation...every time I step out into it. It makes me reflect on my Creator all that much more. I'm running many rivers out here completely blind...not knowing what lies ahead...only knowing that my Creator is with me...watching me enjoy His creation. It is truly an awe inspiring experience.

I just moved from that miserable hole. Yes, God did do an amazing job in creating the PNW...........but it comes at a cost....RAIN, CLOUDS, RAIN, MORE CLOUDS, THEN GRAY SKIES, TRAFFIC, LIBERALS, RAIN, GRAY SKIES, DEMOCRATS, MORE TRAFFIC, ALTERNATIVE LIFESTYLERS, MORE RAIN, MORE TRAFFIC, AND MORE ALTERNATIVE LIFESTYLERS............I couldn't wait to get out of that miserable place. Left two months ago and have never looked back. I moved to Arizona and am enjoying the sunshine, heat, clear skies, no rainbow stickers, and more conservative folks. And the good thing is I don't have to get on the highway to go to work! Yep.....you can have the PNW....Good luck to ya! 0 -

As a former OTR trucker, I've seen the entire lower 48 states of the U.S. I like to say that you can pick a any place (accessable by paved road) in the U.S.. And if I haven't been there, I've been within 20 miles of it.
And the NW is by far my favorite and was my bread & butter. I got to run it alot because I would run it year round. (Many "fair weather" truckers only wanted NW runs in the summer). But all I really got to see was what could be seen from the cab of a semi truck. How much I envy you for being able to see so much more.0 -
People like to go to the national parks like Yellowstone because they can see wildlife and natural wonders from their car window as they drive through.
The NW has an awesome park in Mount Rainier National Park but you have to hike in to see the Beauty, which is fine for me because it cuts down on the crowds.
I was just over the border from you ECC on the Washington side a few years ago and watched a Moose and 3 calves swim from one side of the lake to another. I have a friend who lives near priest lake Northern Idaho and he has moose running across his property.
It is good to see the Moose are gaining in numbers.0 -
When I was trucking, I saw far more Moose than I did (live) Elk. There would be all these signs "Watch out for Elk". But it was years before I actually saw any beyond road kills.
Interesting tidbut about Moose. They told us truckers never to honk or blow our air horns at a Moose in the road. It's been known to cause them to charge and attack vehicles.
I saw more Eagles in Nevada than anywhere else. And saw a mountain lion on Cabbage Mountain in Oregon. Right on top only about 1/4 mile from the tourist look-out observtion point! It ran across the road in front of me. Never did see a bear altho a buddy ran over one in Florida.0 -

Northern Californa. Bay Area native. Graduate placement here at school can help me out with a job when I graduate. I have two choices of where I want to go. Back to NorCal (anywhere from Santa Cruz to the Oregon border, avoiding the San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, and Sacramento metro areas (wouldn't mind the 'burbs), plus Stockton and Modesto.
My only other choice:
New Zealand.

Washinton = Almost as bad as the PRK (but not quite).
Oregon = Nearly a mirror image of Washington, but not nearly as populated.

Eric, I've got to agree about the beauty of this region, and you'll probably be glad to hear that I still have the same sense of the place five years after I moved here.
I assume the mountains you're using are near your home so I'll offer this: I just spent a couple days in the Cascades (HWY 2, Skykomish area) and am asking myself: How did I spend five years here and not get there before? I know the answer. I've been enjoying the western Rockies in ID, which are a little closer to me than the Cascades.
But every mountain range is a little different, so be sure to do more exploring.
I don't think it's a great idea to ride the rivers blind, although I'm sure it's thrilling. The falls are where they are; I don't want to hear about a paddling accident in the Panhandle on the radio. I'll leave it at that and you can take it or leave it, because we don't seem to agree on much beyond the beauty of the inland NW and of course the wonder of guns.

Nice pics! They're obviously shot on the 'dry side' of the mountains. Cross over to the west side of the Cascade mountains and the vegetation is much more lush, making for a much different experience. I'm coming to the conclusion that I prefer the dry side, but it's kind of fun to go over to the we(s)t side, too. On the other hand, I think the wet side might offer better berry picking.....maybe it's best to live on the ridge.[:D]0 -
Those are some really nice pics, and some beautifull country. The farthest I've been that a way is Rifle CO. That is some real beautiful country. If I ever live anywere other than KY, I'd like it to be WY, or ID. One thing though, the coldest I've ever been is in elk camp on a mountain outside of Rifle, and that was damned cold. Does it get colder than that in ID? 0 -

It does not really get that cold where I live. I live in a little pocket where we get winds off the Pacific ocean and the Temps are comparable to the DC area without the humidity...it might be 10 degrees cooler year round here...0
