My fingers hurt. (pics)
So I am going to a rifle class this coming weekend and decided I wanted to use my M1A. Well I didn't have a sling for it yet so I decided it was time to make one.
Here is the first pic showing the overall.

Here is the front, basically I made a collar that fits tight and stops on the front sling swivel. I then added the tab with a buckle to run the sling through. You can kind of see it in the first pic but I have a loop of elastic that goes around the buckle to keep it from making noise.

Since the rear stock is at an angle so you can't just sew a round loop.

Here is the other side with tab and buckle like the front collar. I then just looped the sling through and used a tight friction loop to keep the back part of the sling in place. This method also make the sling size easy to change in a hurry if needed.

I have a hard time finding slings I like and they are too expensive. I have about $10 into this one plus my time. Sewing by hand on heavy material really sucks.
BTW if anyone is going to be in Yakima this Saturday (9-22) a second shooter can get in for half price.

I would love to make a run to Yakima but will be tied up.
Nice sling.0 -
GF was making fun of me last night for walking around the house wearing it. I had to get it tested some how. She really laughs when I was doing my "pistol transitions" [:D] 0 -

Yakima is a town in the middle of WA state. The class is WRSA Intermediate Rifle Clinic.

Seems like you went through a lot of work just to avoid using the built in sling mounts.
Or are you heavy into the "Fagtical" style0 -
I wish I could get to Yakima for a visit. I miss that part of the country.
My grandparents used to have a vacation cabin not far from there up near the Little Nacheze River. We used to go there quite often for fishing and such.
It has been about 20 years since I was at the cabin.0
