Pre-finished hardwood floors?
Does anyone have experience good or bad with prefinished hardwood floors like Bellawood, Bruce, Builders Pride, etc? I am looking to install 3/4" prefinished hardwood in my living room and dining room and saw these. Are they pretty good?

I used a "Bruce" product some years ago for an entryway.
No complaints!
The new finishes are light-years ahead of the traditional "Swedish finish" that is typically used with finish in place floors.0 -
I have put 3 or 4 pre-finished floors in. One just recently. They look great and hold up very well, and we have large Rottie's running around in the house. They do have "creavices" between the boards as they are slightly beveled at each edge so they do look a little different than sanded and varnished floors. I like them as they go down quickly and there is no finishing "mess" to worry about. I would recommend them to anyone considering harwood floors (3/4"). ghs 0 -
I have installed the prefinish 3/4 and it does look good, just not as good as a real wood flooring which is sanded and finish coated.
The lady I installed the floorin for did not want any sanding whatsoever in her house so she was very pleased with this stuff.
The only thing is is that it is not quite as smooth as a sanded floor and the finish dipped a little at the joints on each stip.
You would have to be on your hands and knees looking parallel to the floor to see the difference though.0 -
Just redid my friend's entire first floor with Bellawood, very nice stuff. It is thick solid wood with a great finish. 0 -
I've put in prefinish engineered wood floors. This flooring came in 9" X 72" tongue and groove planks that I floated. The joints are tight, with no beveled edges, and gives a better appearance IMO. The downside is that the top layer is only about 1/8" thick and might be tricky to refinish.
I've also installed regular 3/4' oak, sanded, stained and finished. That whole process takes some time and effort. The prefinished planks would appeal to me more if it didn't have the darned beveled edges.
If you can stand the beveling, go for it. The finish wears like iron. Just be sure to put down paper or felt first to keep the squeeks to a minimum.0 -
We installed bellawood in our last home that flooded and even after the flood, we cleaned the floors first with a garden hose to get the mud out, then with clorox and water and the finish was still there. I would recomend it highly. It was the brazilian cherry. 0 -
I put some prefinished in my weekend bungalow in Georgia. They looked great after we sanded them down. 0 -

Bruce makes a great pre-finished hardwood floor. It has an incredibly hard and durable finish. You will save some money and headache by going with the prefinished route... 0
