I just watched a report on CBS where they were talking about veterans mental health!

WHAT A CROCK OF CRAP!

They tried consentrateing on the downfalls of the VA system!

I agree there is room for improvement in the VA system but I also know from experience that the VA also has excelent care compaired to most of the countries medical care! Exspecially in the field of dealing with PTSD in combat vets!

This report made it sound like the VA does not do CRAP for our vets that suffer from PTSD!

I can speak from experience in this as I am a vet that deals with the disorder and recieve treatment from the VA for it! The VA has made great advancements in this field and continues to do so! Treatment does not allways mean medication either! Sometimes it is nothing more than counceling to help the vet deal with his/her disorder!

I honestly believe that those vets that are saying that they get no help from the VA have not tried to get help from them! Help from the VA is not automatic! You must go to them and seek help just like you would from a doctor in the privite sector!

I am sorry if I am ranting here! But as a Veteran who has recieved plenty of help from the VA a report like this makeing it seem that the VA is not doing CRAP for our vets bugs the CRAP out of me!

    My radar says watch Congress. MSM coverage of some perceived failure in the "System", no matter what it is, leads directly to some BS move to press something else thru Congress. The gullible are just being prepped so they won't resist.

    it really depends on the VA location (CILINIC OR HOSPITAL) YOU GO TO. THE CLINIC I HAVE TO GO TO IS USELESS there are good Doctors and nurces and there are very bad. i've had both in the 30 odd years dealing with the VA.

    Good post GRD,My experience with the VA is probably better than with the local Docs.The VA has the most experience with Vets who share the same disorders.A lot of the problem is the Vets[ive seen it a hundred times] who grumble about every damn thing at the VA that causes them the least bit of trouble and then complain about it to the scavenging TV reporter whos covering a story on the VA. Yes we are Vets and have served our Country and the Va isnt perfect but neither is was the Military we served in at least not when i was in.

    I asked a buddy a few questions, who was in treatment,(He served two terms in Nam),.The V.A. would pay for golf lessons,and what ever, but would not pay for range time or ammo.If they wanted to take up skeet or trap as a hobby , it was a no no.At the time I wanted to have my bird dog bred.His shrink had the stud. The shrink came over and found out I was a vet.After telling him when and where I served, he wanted me in his group.Heres the kicker, my hobbys are hunting, birds, deer, and elk.It takes alot of my time on the range, and working with my dogs.It turned out his stud never had hunted.This so called doctor who owned a hunting dog, never had hunted the dog. He didn't even own a gun. How do you think this nut would vote if he were asked if vets should be able to own a firearm?

    My experience has been the oposite!

    The doctors I have delt with have supported my gun hobbies! They do say that it MAY not be a good thing for all, but it definatly works for many!

    The point being that it gives a person something to do to take thier mind off other things that might be a trigger item sending them back in time (so to speak).

    This comes from doctors that I have delt with at 4 different VA facilities!

    Any of the doctors I have delt with I have never hidden my hobbies with guns when I have talked with them. I also tell them that these were hobbies that I had before I ever even went into the Army.

    I honestly believe that if you look at doctors as a whole (VA and privite sector) you will find that most are anti-gun! I say this as I have been exposed to doctors all my life with my mom being an RN who worked at the same hospital (and still does part time since her retirement in september) since before I was born. I knew a large portion of the doctors around that hospital and such and feel that most of them would outlaw guns if they had thier way.
