Should I join a gun club?

I'm not much of an organization man. But I shoot almost every day, and sometimes, I'd like to be able to fellowship with someone else about guns and shooting. Maybe even get together with a few folks and do some target shooting. I love the forum, but it isn't the same as getting together in person, is it?

Do you recommend belonging to a gun club? If you do, what minimal level of commitment would make it worth the while? Must one have almost unlimited financial wherewithal in order to participate? Are meetings usually weekly, monthly?

    I am in a gun club, we get together a few times/year for meetings and once during deer season up at our cabin. MOre of a hunting club though. For shooting, I'm in the same boat you are...thinking of joining one. Don't want to be bogged down with commitments though.

    Id say join your local one, not to commit to the club, but see who is there. Maybe you will like the club, maybe you wont. Maybe you will meet a few friends maybe you wont...
    but if you want to meet some people in you area that shoot, a gun club might be a good starting place for sure...

    I dont recomend belonging to a club, but I am sure you will find many like minded people there that will help you find your way..[8D]

    Joining a club may be the best (or only) way to get a lot of shooting in in built up areas

    Join a club!
    Many times, you'll find someone there that has similar equipment to what you have, and will commiserate when you both turn in crappy scores!
    I'm a member of a silhouette club that shoots every other Sunday, an Action Pistol group that meets once a month, a skeet/trap club that is disbanded 'till after hunting season, and thinking of joining a pin-shooting club about 45 miles South of here.
    I still go to one of several ranges when I'm not doing club stuff, and I've met a lot of shooters who aren't in any kind of club at all; sort of the grumpy old pharts shooting society.

    By all means, join a local club. You may like it. How much you participate depends on you. You will meet the very best people who love the same things you do and you will get the opportunity to join in practice shoots and competition, probably. Also, BBQ's, raffles, etc. At least this is my experience.
    Some of my very best friends, I would not have known if not for my rod and gun club.......[:)][:)]

    Not renewing my membership after Jan.1 in the local one. Safety has become a concern with me with the yahoo's that are there. I will shoot in the back yard.

    Gary, Our club is very safety minded, as a range safety officer there I can ask anyone to leave the range who is in violation of the rules. If they refuse the sheriff is called and they are removed.

    A member that breaks the rules are sometimes suspended , and I know of a couple that have had their membership revoked and a No Trespass warrant served them.

    To answer the question posed by SahaganBeta , yes! by all means join a club, I find the fellowship at the pistol. rifle range to be somewhat less than at the Skeet and Trap ranges or the SASS shoots. I guess it is because in the shotgun sports you have more time to stand around a BS while one guy is shooting. All in all it is very enjoyable, get some good gun deals, and a lot of good Ideas and views of a lot of gun owners..
