Talked to a guy at the gun shop the other day when I saw one of those, said he has one and gets pretty respectable groups with it. They do feel a bit weird with that stock and the heavy front end. Anyone here shot one?

Do they make it in blue steel, without the unusual stock ??

Oh give me a break, I'm waiting six months until they come out with a black one with a bayonet lug and a flash suppresor that is the Ultra Tactical. That link brags about it shooting 1" groups @ 100 yards, which don't get me wrong is phenomenal for a mini-14, but pretty much standard for any rifle you can buy off the shelf at Wal-Mart. And with the way mini-14 prices have gone up in the last five or ten years that hunk or ranch iron probably costs a thousand dollars or so.

They did the one you're talking about, around 20 years ago.

They sell for a whole bunch, now.

Might have been called the AC556 - oh, yeah...it was also full-auto, I believe.

    Anybody know for sure ??

the AC-556 is a full auto version of the mini-14.
IIRC it had a folding stock and flash suppressor, not sure about bayo lug.
It is the rifle featured prominently in the TV series "The A-Team"

AFAIK they did not have black AC-556, at least not many of them. Should have been wood furniture/stainless or blued like the semi-auto version.

Had an early model back in the late '90's that shot real good for a mini-14, around 2" at 100 yards. In one of my moments of stupidity, traded it for another gun, new owner is still making comments on how well it shoots. Wish I'd kept it, like most of the guns I end up trading away.

+1 as we say when a fellow poster expresses our opinion before we do.

The AC-556 was the select-fire version...but they made a Mini-14 GB, the "GB" standing for "goverment bayonet", according to some sources. It had a lug to accept the standard M16 bayonet, and it had a flash hider, otherwise it was pretty much a standard semi-auto Mini-14. Ruger did not sell them to the public, and the ones out there are police surplus, for the most part.

Don't hold your breath on Ruger making one with the lug and hider for the general public. That wouldn't be consistant with past practices.

I didn't know they were making a target rifle out of the mini 14
