Bushmaster, POF USA had gas piston operated ARs for a quite a while now, don't know if anyone else. GSR 35 kit also is not news, I hear great success stories about it.
But still good to know, maybe if more manufacturers offered gas piston ARs the prices would drop a bit.0 -

The key to this thread was that there was a new manufacturer coming out with a gas piston AR...Bushmasters have been available for quite some time now.
As for the prices, they should come down sooner or later...it cannot cost that much more to make these uppers...I would imagine that they'll end up replacing the traditional uppers in due time.0 -

Someone makes a conversion kit for around $400 that is supposed to be pretty damb good ... I look at the kit and still can't justify the cost.
Besides, you can buy a Daewoo DR200, Armalite AR-180B for a lot less ... you can buy a SiG556 for what most sellers want for just a AR piston upper.
The AR piston upper is nothing new and until manufacturers get real with their prices, I'll wait.0 -

Where's all the people complaining that it's a solution in search of a problem?
"But... but, but, but... we can't use a piston upper! The AK uses a piston upper! The gas impingement system is perfect!!!!"
I've often wondered why they didn't just design the impingement system to tap gas from near the base of the barrel to bleed off the hotter, cleaner gas. Less fouling, right? I'm no gun engineer, so someone tell me why my idea sucks eggs.0 -
ATR-1 is also out, almost all FAL but takes AR15 mags...
Personally I'm kickin myself for not trading $100 and a loaded out mini14 (6 30 round mags that worked, choate fixed e2 style stock, good flash hider) for a FN-FNC...0 -
