I need some help from our SW members!
I am interested in goetting ahold of some Mesquite tree pods to start growing some trees around the house here. I want these because I spend alot of money on mesquite wood for smokeing and BBQing and thought if I could start growing some around the house I could just use it instead once they get big enuff to take some cuttings of wood from them.
Can any of our South West people send me some pods for planting?

Could you build a greenhouse with a dehumidifier? Mesquites don't get very tall. 0 -

No but I used just the wood with regular charcol. I soak the wood for about 8 hours before useing it. It gives me a real nice mesquite flavor that way.0 -
Depends on where you live, and which variety of Mesquite you want.
Screwbean (so called due to the twisty seed pods) won't be pushing pods 'till almost August, and if they don't get exposed to 100 degrees during their production; they won't sprout.
There's a bunch of different kinds of Mesquite, and some reach 40'; all of them have poisonous thorns, so be careful!
I'll ship you a small box of 50-60 pods of various types as soon as they get ripe. It'll be up to you to figure out which you want.0 -
I was told that the roots are used not the branches. I have always wondered how true that is. I have some seed pods somewhere. 0 -

I have allways prefered mesquite over hickory! It has alot stronger flavor to it.
I am also looking to get some apple wood for when I do fish. I like the soft flavor of the apple with fish unless I am doing shrimp that will be served with steaks. And then I stay with the mesquite for it.0 -

I'd like that there gunnut. I guess I could try growing it out here to see if it will take. It does get cold here in the winter, but I'm not sure it gets cold enuff for long periods to keep it from growing. And I could start them off in a greenhouse as nunn said.0 -

it has very cold winters.0 -
