Finally got off my butt and did it.
Joined the NRA this morning. I have put it off way too long. After reading a post on another forum and seeing all the pansies cry, I was prompted to do it. I'd suggest that anyone who owns a gun, is involved with shooting sports, or wants to own a gun do the same.
Brownells offers a dicounted membership. $25/year vs. $35.
So let's hear your excuse.

I enjoy my machineguns.
I like my suppressors and the childrn who learn to shoot with them are not scared of the concussion and noise.
I keep a short barrel shotgun by each door and under my bed.
The NRA does not support my owning any of them.
So PIZZ on the NRA!!

But, but....the NRA is the staunch defender of the Second Amendment, aren't they?[}:)][:o)] At least that is what they keep telling all of us gun-owners.
How can they NOT support your "right" to keep and bear such arms as you describe, IF they actually do support Amendment II as they constantly claim....Hmmm?0 -

It is as I have said.
The deadliest enemy freedom faces is the anti-gun gun owner.
Those that chose VOLUNTARILY to walk shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Shumer.
These people are in YOUR foxhole...shooting you in the back..if you are a Second Amendment supporter.0 -

Highball, therein is much of my frustration.
I fully expect the anti-freedom politicos, the various and sundry one-worlders and the "protect me" morons in American Society, to work toward stripping my RTKBA. I do NOT need the added onslaught of ignorant, afraid-of-freedom gun-owners who are defacto joining forces and/or unwittingly supporting the anti-individual liberty crowd.
This continuing debate about the "Second Amendment" here on GB, does nothing except starkly shine light on those who do not understand the concept of the Bill of Rights and/or are willing to compromise away what clearly was intended to be an absolute right.
To me it is pathetic, angering and saddening, all rolled into one bitter pill. America is doomed to fall from within, like all great civilizations in history.0 -

Opposed to the bill.......
Military Order of the Purple Heart
The American Legion
Ted Nugent (an NRA director, not afraid to speak out against the board)
Mike Huckabee (presidential candidate)
Sen. Jim DeMint
The GOA
Supports the bill.......
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy
Sen. Chuck Schumer
Sen. Patrick Leahy
The NRA
Those representatives names supporting it "should" be enough, to KNOW that it CAN NOT be good for gun owners.
You're a wack job!0 -

I am a life member of the NRA.
I don't like their position on that bill.
I agree with Lt496. I think just about all gun laws are un-Constitutional. I didn't always feel that way but I can be a slow learner at times.
I'm not ready to give up on the NRA. I think we should work to elect more pro-Constitution Board Members. The NRA is still a powerful organization and is the biggest fear of many in the anti-gun crowd.
I am planning to join JPFO as well. I think they are going to be a leader in this fight. They publish a lot of good info you can use to contradict the anti-gunners.
And everyone should read the book "Unintended Consequences" and then use the net to do their own homework about some of our government's errors/abuses that are listed in the book. Although it is a novel, many of the stories are based in fact. I learned more about 2nd Amendment history from looking up info that was related to in that book than from any other source.
While I know that most LE people's hearts are in the right place, there are always some whose actions are criminal. Same for the judicial system. And some judges obviously have their own hidden agendas. We need to keep those judges from getting onto the Supreme Court.
If the US Supreme Court ever decides to hear a 2nd Amendment case, we need judges that will follow the constitution without fear of repercussions. My fear is that they may be more concerned with the effects or unrest that their pro-2nd Amendment decision may cause. That should not be an issue. They should simply carry out their duty and let the legislative and executive branches worry about what will need to be done next.
I would be more worried that if they don't do the right thing, we will continue down the path that we have already started. And I think that is a very dangerous one, indeed!0 -
Very well said, GUNFUNCO. 0 -

Most gun owners support gun laws. Fat chance convincing most of those millions of NRA groupies to support a REAL Second Amendment supporter.
"Radicals", you call them.

You are a bit behind the curve, here...coming right up. Check Washington, DC.
Amazing to me, the total ignorance of History by the majority of the masses. These people trust the government more then the guy across the road from them. They trust the GOVERNMENT with unlimited guns..unlimited power to poke and pry around in their daily lives..unlimited power to deny this or that gun at the whim of some third-rate Napolean complexed empty suit.
NO AMERICAN can crawl on his belly to beg said empty suit to 'buy a gun' without feeling the shrivling of his soul within his/he body.
And no American can feel comfortable supporting ANYBODY advocating gun control.
To do so is spiting on the Founders spilt blood.0 -
I could do without all the junk mail they send me on a weekly basis. 0 -

GUNFUNCO, nice to see a well written reply.
Since I am a Life Member of NRA also and I have paid my membership fee, they are stuck with me. In reality, I have pretty much given up on the organization since their long and sordid history of supporting, facilitating and then selling to America various and sundry gun-control schemes is indicative that they are supporting a different Amendment II than that contained in the US Constitution's Bill of Rights. I will continue to try and see that pro-constitution board members are elected and they will continue to get many , I suppose irritating, comments from me about their activities.
My primary support has been thrown to GOA and JPFO, both who seem to support Amendment II as written and intended. Being able to acknowledge the reality of NRA actions, not their claims, pretty much forces me to look elsewhere for a group to support and promote. It is that pesky "integrity" thing, you know, doing the right thing for the right reasons, no matter the difficulty or popular sentiment and wisdom...Something that many seem not to possess on this particular issue.
As to the book "Unintended Consequences", I have read it several times over the past few years. An excellent read and a great concept to regain the lost RTKBA IMHO.[;)]
I agree with you about the judiciary, but it is important to remember that they are only a part of the overall problem.
The bottom line cause is simply that the VAST majority of America's citizens are burdened with stupidity, apathy, ignorance, fear of reprisal, "herd-mentality" and a simple fear and inability to acknowledge that our own government is operating in an unconstitutional and predatory manner.
Coupled and contrasted with this is the slow burn of anger, the frustration, the clarity of view and the general powerlessness of the small percentage of American Citizens that clearly see what is happening to our Constitutional form of government. These few who see the escalating loss of individual liberties and can't get through to the aforementioned herd to understand, acknowledge and/or step up and assist in correcting it.0
