Letter from Smith and Wesson
Sent inquiry in on the "Lemon Squeezer" that BR bought and the fellow from S&W said it was a PRE-Model 40 made in 1952 as there is no model number on the yoke , actual production didnt begin until 1953 and ended in 1974, Production guns had an L prefix in the serial number beginning around 1957. The one BR got has a 4 digit serial number ..[:D][:D]

Yes, its a grip safety....I really dont notice the grip safety when shooting it, its just there if you know what I mean..... 0 -
why would you need a safety on a revolver that is d.a. only?? 0 -
Of course its D.A. only, and as to why? Only Smith&Wesson knows the answer to that one although research suggests the first "lemon squeezers" were designed because a child was injured after cocking and firing one of the company's revolvers.. 0
