Fishing rod storage question
I have some pretty decent rods and reels (ugly stick and BPS rods, Shimonno reels and other good ones).
I have been storeing them in my closet. I was thinking of moveing them under my mobile home as I have a large storage area under it.
They will be out of the weather and such but there would be a big temprature fluxuation.
Will this damage my rods and reels in any way?

I wouldn't see a problem with it as far as the poles go. I wouldn't put my reels down there though. Too much moisture for me. 0 -
I built custom made fishing rods commercially for a number of years.
Gradual temperature changes, as far as i know, should do no damage to your rods, however, reels and moisture may be another story.
I would thoroughly spray with Break Free (or similar CLP) both rods and reels, and enclose them in some sort of waterproof material.
Moreover, store the rods straight, either completely vertically or horizontally, as to avoid creating a permanent bend.
Prior to use, spray again and wipe dry.

...Rods store the best hung vertically from the butt end of the rod, the reel seat, with the rod hanging free.
...Why store 'em now that fishing season is in full swing, them kids need to go fishing too...[:D]

I do keep everything oiled and such on a regular basis as they do get used fairly often.
I just was not sure about the temprature fluxuations.
It stays dry under there and the only moisture would be from the humidity.
I think I will build some hooks under there today to put them on.
I am just trying to free up some space in my closet to clean up some clutter![:D]0 -

It might make the line go south quicker (I find if I leave the reels in the humid, hot boat the mono line dies about 2X quicker than in the a/c, dehumidified house) but the poles should be fine. The reels... I'd say a quick spray of WD 40 should cover you but who knows? 0 -

You know untill about 2 years ago I never bought any real good fishing gear. I usually got cheep walmart Zebco type stuff.
After moving out east here and having a Bass Pro Shops faily close I started buying good quality stuff for a change. 3 of my poles are Ugly Sticks and 2 are BPS poles (the higher end ones).
I even got my kids some good BPS poles with pretty decent Shimono reals.
Sad thing is I don't hardly catch anything![:(]
I am used to trout fishing. I can catch trout all day long if I have a trout stream to fish (which back in California I had one about 20 minutes away). But here it is mostly all bass and stripper fishing and I just don't know how to fish for them.0 -

For long term storage I have found that a food storage system (you know the vacuum type) works real well. You can buy the bags in rolls and make them the length that you need. They can be reused if you leave extra material at the end. These also work well to store both long guns and hand guns. Some NIB guns, boxes and all, fit nicely inside the larger bags. Before you put them in wipe 'em down with oil or for the reels you can use any lubricant you want. Vacuum pack 'em and you're good to go for the long haul! ghs 0 -

My skirting on this trailer is not typical! And the back of it that is made into a storage area is all of wood construction with a heavy door that does stay locked.
It is also directly under my bedroom!
So if I hear someone rummageing under me at night I will just shoot through the floor and nail them![;)][}:)][:D][:o)]0 -

If you don't mind taking the reels off for storage I've used PVC pipe before for shipping. Put a cap on one end and a threaded cap on the other. It will keep em clean, safe, and be safe from humidity. You can get whatever size PVC you need depending on how many rods you have. 0 -

I had thought about that as well! But I use them too often to tear them down like that.
I just wanted to move them out of my closet to clean the clutter up a bit.
I allready moved them under the house. I think they will be allright with the amount they are used and such. The reels get oiled every couple weeks durring the summer and about once a month in the winter.
I mounted hooks on the wall right near the door so I can get them real easy when I go fishing.[:D]0 -

Get some 4 inch sch 40 pvc, put a plug on one end, put a cap on the other end. I store all my rods this way, even when they are in my workshop. Keeps them from getting damaged.
