Major second amendment win in DC today.

Federal appellate judges strike down DC gun ban.

This is a MAJOR pro-gun win.

This is going to probably be appealled for en banc decision (the entire court to look at it, instead of a panel), and there is a pretty good chance it will ultimately make it to the (new and conservative!) US Supreme Court.

Alito, in particular, is pro-gun.

I just checked all the major news websites (CNN,ABC,CBS,MSNBC,Washington Post) and there was nothing that mentioned this. I wonder if had the decision went the other way would it be all over the news?

Watch this bring out Schumer and his big guns.

Or they will just let it die to avoid it going to the supreme court to avoid a more serious victory.

I read most of this bill and I think it gives folks the right to keep handguns, in their homes, loaded for self defense. Not carry them outside.

I hope it gets challenged and does go on to the Supreme Court, it is a solid decision based on good solid evidence in the brief.[:)]

It was a panel of 2/3 Federal judges on the DC circuit court of appeals who made the decision.

And there are at least two more levels of appeal (en banc review and US Supreme Court) before it can "settle".

But this does open the door to Supreme Court review, which is good.

It's the number four top story on Yahoo/AP news.

If it holds up on appeal, or better yet, goes to the Supreme Court and is upheld, someone could challenge the Chicago handgun ban in court and get that easily overturned (after precedent was set in this case). And it would also prevent any other city or state from trying to pass a gun ban like San Francisco tried to do. Gun rights orgs could even try and challenge other gun laws using this precedent, like the various AWBs that exist at the state level.

I'm surprised this decision wasn't unanimous. The single dissenting judge, Karen Henderson, was a George HW Bush appointee and has been a staunch conservative on the Bench.
